Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out the relations perceived by mothers between marital relationship, husband's involvement in child rearing and children's emotional competence. Relations between marital relationship and husband's involvement in child rearing, marital relationship and children's emotional competence, husband's involvement in child rearing and children's emotional competence, respectively were studied. The difference between the genders of those is also studied.
The subjects of this study were 317 who have mothers having children of 4 to 5 years old that goes to kindergarten in K- city and D-city. The data were collected by using surveys on marital relationship, husband's involvement in child rearing, and children's emotional competence.
By using SPSS WIN 14.0 Program and SAS 9.1 Program, I found the reliability analysis, mean, standard deviation, frequency, percentage, correlation analysis, and canonical analysis of data.
The results of this study were as follows.
First, Marital relationship showed significantly positive correlation with husband's involvement in child rearing in both boys group and girls group. All the factors sub-area of marital relationship showed significantly positive correlation with all the factors sub-area of husband's involvement in child rearing. There was no difference between the genders. Therefore, the better the marital relationship has perceived by mother, the more the husband's involvement in their child rearing.
Second, marital relationship showed significantly positive correlation with children's emotional competence. Significantly positive correlation with emotional competence and all the factors sub-area of emotional competence in boys group and significantly positive correlation with emotional competence except sub-areas of other-emotional cognitive in girls group. There was a little difference between the genders. Generally, the better marital relationship has perceived by mothers, the better children's emotional competence is.
Finally, husband's involvement in child rearing showed significantly positive correlation with children's emotional competence; however, the only emotional regulation was observed positively in sub-areas. The boys group showed significantly positive correlation with emotional competence, emotional regulation, and other-emotional cognitive; whereas, girls group showed significantly positive correlation with emotional competence and emotional regulation. A slight difference was observed between the genders. Thus the more the husband's involvement in child rearing is, the better the children's emotional competence is.
