This study aims at looking into how much middle school teachers recognize the professional characteristic of teaching and are satisfied with duties, and also at looking into how much the recognition in the professional characteristic of teaching is correlated with duty satisfaction. The study subjects defined to attain the aims are as followings.
First, how much teachers recognize the professional characteristic of teaching?
Second, how much teachers are satisfied with duties?
Third, how much the recognition in the professional characteristic of teaching is correlated with duty satisfaction?
This study intended to perform an investigation to look into the subjects, selected randomly 10 middle schools of 60 ones located at Ulsan-si, and distributed questionnaires to 270 teachers. Except 17 questionnaires which had no answer and were uncollected or worthless, this study used 253 sheets to analyze study questions at last.
The measuring scale used for this study was the questionnaire about the recognition in professional characteristic of teaching and the questionnaire about the measurement of duty satisfaction. As a statistic method to deal with materials, this study used t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlationship analysis, multi-regression analysis and applied SPSS/12.0K program.
The study summary drawn from the above process is as followings.
First, middle school teachers' recognition level of professional characteristic of teaching was average 3.64, comparatively high. As for subsidiary factors, the teachers recognized the professional characteristics, the development and operation of curriculum(M=3.80), professional characteristic of instruction(M=3.62), and voluntary sense of duty(M=3.56) in order. Positions and career factors were consistently applied to the recognition of professional characteristics, classified with respective teachers' factors. Department chief teachers had higher recognition in professional characteristic than general teachers. Teachers with long experience had higher recognition in professional characteristic than those with short career.
When it comes to sex-based classification, men teachers had higher recognition in professional characteristic than women teachers.
Second, middle school teachers' duty satisfaction degree was average 3.14 in general, comparatively satisfactory. As for subsidiary factors, teachers' satisfaction degrees were human relation(M=3.6), compensation system(M=3.08), and administrative assistance(M=3.04) in order, and community relationship(M=2.89) comparatively low. As personal factors, position had an influence on duty satisfaction. Department chief teachers(M=3.39) had higher satisfaction than general teachers(M=3.07). Department teachers had positive correlationship in all of four fields, human relationship, administrative assistance, compensation system, and community human relation. As sex factors, men teachers had a little higher satisfaction than women teachers(men teachers M=3.34, women teachers M=3.05).
Third, as for middle school teachers' recognition in professional characteristic of teaching and duty satisfaction degree, Pearson correlative coefficient was .466, a little weak, but positive. The higher teachers recognized professional characteristics, the higher their duty satisfaction degrees were. Teachers' factors in professional characteristics had explanatory effects on duty satisfaction degrees about 30%, which voluntary missionary feelings had the most influence on, this study result says.
The study result leads to an analysis that middle school teachers are satisfied with putting into practice professional characteristics of teaching in traditional view rather than with displaying the processing of teaching-learning. It is important to make a political effort to increase middle school teachers' factors of professional characteristics of teaching such as the development and operation of curriculums and the professional characteristic of instructions.
