The main purpose of this study was to examine the inference of children's temperament, maternal parenting behavior and children's delay of gratification on aggression.
The subjects of the this study are those who are 131 children of 4 to 5 years old(65 boys and 66 girls), their mothers and their teachers in kindergarten located in Seoul.
Children's delay of gratification behavior was measured by Delay-of-gratification paradigm (Mischel,Ebbesen,&Zeiss, 1972)which was reconstructed by Rodriguez and his colleagues(2005). The data were collected by using three kinds of questionnaires such as Thomas and Chess(1977)'s RITQ(Revised Infant Temperament Questionnaire), Slater and Power(1987)'s PDI(Parenting Dimension Inventory), and Crick, Casas and Mosher(1977)'s PSBS-T(Preschool Social Behavior Scale-Teacher Form).
Data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regressions.
The results of this study are following:
First, when children's activity was higher, and maternal control was higher, children's aggression was higher. Among those variables, maternal control was the most influential thing on maternal control.
Second, when children's activity was lower, and maternal warmth and control were higher, children's delay of gratification was higher. Among those variables, maternal control was the most influential thing on delay of gratification of children.
Third, when children's response was higher, maternal warmth was higher.
Last, children's temperament, maternal parenting, and children's delay of gratification only had a direct influence on aggression.
The result of present study implies the importance of maternal parenting in child's aggression.
