The purpose of this study was to figure out the relationship between alcohol expectancy and its effects based on social learning theories and find out the methods of providing basic program data for the effective alcohol prevention activities in adolescents and revising their distorted alcohol expectancy. To this end, this study divided the dependent variables into positive and negative alcohol expectancy and classified the factors that might affect the formation of adolescents' alcohol expectancy into environmental and individual areas to create a multiple regression analysis model.
For the verification of the hypothesis, the questionnaires were distributed for 12 local junior high schools from 11 regions in the country and 932 questionnaires were used for an analysis.
After conducting the research, it has been concluded that positive alcohol expectancy increased as the environmental factors were on the increasesuch as alcohol frequency of their mothers, peer groups' attitudes towards alcohol, degree of accepting peer pressure and the number of names of alcohol memorized and the individual factors were on the decrease such as level of alcohol-related knowledge and internal control.
It has been also confirmed that negative alcohol expectancy increased as the environmental factors such as peer groups' attitudes towards alcohol and frequency of contacting alcohol drinking scenes were on the decrease, but those such as degree of accepting peer pressure and the individual factors such as level of alcohol-related knowledge were on the increase.
This study attempted to confirm the factors affecting the formation of alcohol expectancy to establish a method for preventing adolescents from drinking alcohol in terms of positive and negative alcohol expectancy. It is expected that this study will be helpful in figuring out alcohol expectancy as one of the causes of alcohol drinking in the adolescents and will contribute to the development of an effective alcohol prevention program.
