The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of ballet program on body composition, physical fitness and bone mineral density in college women. The subjects of this study were 14 females aged from 19 to 22, who were divided into experiment group(n=7) and control group(n=7). The ballet program conducted on 7 subjects(experiment group), 60 minuets per day, three times a week, for 12-week. The results of this study were as follows:
1. Body Composition
The changes in body composition before and after ballet program, %fat and fat mass were decreased but lean body mass was increased in experiment group.
And %fat, fat mass and lean body mass were showed statistically significant difference between experiment group and control group.
2. Physical Fitness
The changes in physical fitness before and after ballet program, muscle strength, muscle endurance, power, balance and cardiovascular endurance were improved in experiment group, but in control group showed decreased on cardiovascular endurance.
And muscle strength, muscle endurance, power and cardiovascular endurance were showed statistically significant difference between experiment group and control group.
3. Bone mineral density
The changes in bone mineral density before and after ballet program, Lumbar(L1-L4), Ward's Triagle(WT) and Trochanter(TH) were decreased in control group, but no significant changes in experiment group.
And WT and TH were showed statistically significant difference between experiment group and control group.
These results suggested that the ballet program in daily life would be a helpful exercise to improve the body composition, physical fitness and bone mineral density for college women.
