북한 예술영화에 나타난 '사회주의대가정론' 연구 = A Study for 'the Large Socialist Family' in the Art films of North Korea

The purpose of this study is to analyze 'the large socialist family' which bands the system of North Korea by means of art films. The paper unfolds contents on the assumption that the nation combines characteristic emphasizing life in a group and peculiarity of patriarchy by Suryong system into appearance of complete solidarity.
In particular, political culture of North Korea displays plainly specificity of patrilineal society from traditional political culture. The particularity of the political culture took concrete shape through the discourse as 'the large family' which appears from 1950's and the implication of 'the large family' stressed by breakdown of socialist countries in the late of 1980's and economic crisis after the breakdown. The discourse is 'the large socialist family' in other words.
The functions of the discourse are as follows. In the first place, 'the large socialist family' united the whole population of North Korea; the state power compelled loyalty and filial piety to Suryong like they do to parents. And 'the large socialist family' played an important role as ruling discourse at the period of 'the Gonanui Haenggun(the march of sufferings)' which was placed in a great economic crisis.
'The large socialist family' which possesses functions of social control and unification materializes through movies as the means of propaganda and demagogy. The characteristics of 'the large socialist family' discerning by means of art films are as follows. The movies manifest care and protection to the weak in the first place. Moreover, the films emphasize loyalty or allegiance toward Suryong and the party. And the art films stress living in a group of the family. In the last place, the government accentuate great men(or women) leading for socialist establishment.
The films mention heroes(or heroines) heading for innovation of production toward a communist community. The study presents us life of the population through 'the large socialist family' in North Korea. 'The large socialist family' was fundamental ideology to maintain the socialist system in the last 60 years in spite of international influence and crisis of system breakdown.
