The purpose of this study was to find out the relationship between infants' multiple intelligences and their fathers' rearing attitudes and involvement levels. To get the goal, two research questions were set up: First, what relation between infants' multiple intelligences and their fathers' Child-rearing attitudes and involvement levels. Second, how well their fathers rearing attitudes and involvement level explain to infants' multiple intelligences. The subjects were 300 infants, age at 5, and their fathers from kindergartens in the Gyeongnam and Gyeongbuk province. 188 subjects were lastly employed for data analysis. The research tool for Child-rearing attitudes was the MBRI(Schaefer, 1959) that was adapted by Lee, Won-yung(1983) and modified by Hwang, Sun-myung(1994). The research tool for fathers rearing involvement levels was the scales developed by Choi Kyung-sun(1992). And a tool for multiple intelligences was the scale for early children's multiple intelligences of Education Institution of Seoul National University(1997) which is based on the scale of development evaluation by Sheare(1991).
The results were as follows: First, affection and regulation attitudes, sub variable of fathers' Child-rearing attitudes, had significantly positive correlation with natural and spacial intelligences that are sub varialbles of multiple intelligences. Second, there were significantly negative correlation between fathers' home activities and logic-math, language, space, intra-personal intelligence. Third, musical, physical, inter personal intelligences had no explanation for other sub variables. Home activities was relatively related to logic-math and spacial intelligences. The attitudes of affection, home activities, and autonomy were significant prediction variables for multiple intelligences. In conclusion, the study shows that if fathers' Child-rearing attitudes is affective, lovely, achieving, the natural intelligence is higher than those of multiple intelligences, and also indicates that fathers' Child-rearing involvement levels affect to multiple intelligences in part. It is suggested that key variables are fathers' Child-rearing attitudes and involvement levels for development of multiple intelligences.
