생산자서비스업의 권역별 입지요인 분석 : 수요측면을 중심으로 = Analysis of location of producer services of wide-economic zones in Korea : focus on the aspect of demand

Producer services lead growth of urban economy as the basic industry, and are regarded as one of important factors that create economic imbalances between regions. Therefore, it is important to investigate conditions of location and accumulation mechanism of producer services to understand issues concerned with urban economy and economic imbalances between regions.
The purpose of this study is to find factors of demand influencing on the location of Korean producer services and to analyze the impact of the output by economic activity on the number of employees of producer services with the balanced panel data for five wide-economic zones(Seoul-Metropolitan, Busan, Daegu, Gwangju and Daejeon) in a time series of thirteen years from 1993 to 2005.
Seoul-Metropolitan wide-economic zone has good conditions of location for producer services because major domestic and foreign firms were located, and business support functions such as finance, information and distribution, living conditions such as shopping, culture, medical service and leisure, and others were provided there. It shows a wide gap in the conditions of location compared with other four zones. This causes that producer services in Korea are concentrated in Seoul-Metropolitan wide-economic zone.
The results of the empirical analysis show that the factors that have the positive effect on the number of employees of producer services in the five zones are the output of construction, transport, consumer services and public services rather than the output of manufacturing. Most of these output come from region-based services. The factors that have positive effect on the number of producer services in Seoul-Metropolitan and Busan wide-economic zone are the output of transport and consumer services in common which are region-based services. In the meantime, there is the difference between Seoul-Metropolitan and Busan wide-economic zone in the factor that has the positive effect on the number of employees of producer services. That is, the factor for Seoul-Metropolitan wide-economic zone is the output of construction, while that for Busan wide-economic zone is the output of public services. The result that has the positive impact of output of construction on the number of employees of producer services in Seoul-Metropolitan wide-economic zone, implies that the head offices of construction firms are concentrated in this zone.
The result of this study is that important demand factor that has positive effect on the location of Korean producer services is service industry. Therefore, we suggest that more importance should be attached to service industry in addressing issues concerned with urban development and the economic imbalances between regions.
