This study examined and analyzed parents' needs, aiming to research the information sources in the process of parents' selecting an attached kindergarten, and factors that are importantly considered in case of selecting a kindergarten, and to present the better direction of operating an attached kindergarten that parents require.
To attain the purpose of this study, it set up the study subjects as follows.
First, what is an information source in the process of selecting an attached kindergarten?
Second, what is a considerable factor in case of selecting an attached kindergarten?
Third, what about the present status of operating an attached kindergarten, and about parents' needs?
In terms of a study target, it targeted 14 mothers who have preschool children, and these people are in the age brackets for their 30s~40s and have educationally enthusiasm and interest much in children, and children are all 5 years old in full. As to a method of collecting data, it carried out diverse interviews aiming to examine the selection factors and needs for an attached kindergarten. As to a survey tool, it used an interview paper that was directly prepared by a researcher, having the preceding study materials as reference, and analyzed this by mainly transcribing the recorded data and making a category.
Given summarizing the results of this study, those are as follows.
First, it was shown that mothers who are sending children to an attached kindergarten, fail to fully obtain knowledge and information on a kindergarten in the process of selecting a kindergarten, and mainly collect information from a person who had experience of having worked for an attached kindergarten, who sent children to a kindergarten, or who is sending now, and from a neighboring person and a relative.
Second, it was shown that considerable factors in case of selecting an attached kindergarten by mothers, are attributable to cheap education expense, high-quality teachers, well-prepared menu, capability of being quickly adapted to an elementary school, play-centered curriculum other than the cramming education in terms of an education method, and possibility of romping to the fullest at a broad playground because of being a kindergarten within the elementary school.
Third, most mothers responded that the education hours per day for an attached kindergarten, are proper, and on the other hand, two-paycheck mothers made request for carrying out the extension system until 4-5 o'clock in the afternoon, and the all-day system.
In terms of the education activities that will need to be surely conducted by a kindergarten, mothers much selected the field learning or a field trip. However, in terms of quality and quantity of teaching materials and teaching tools that were possessed by a kindergarten, it was shown to be very inferior compared to a private kindergarten. Mothers wanted it to be equipped in line with infants' developmental stage.
As to the facilities of a kindergarten, it was shown that a toilet, and the heating and cooling are well equipped, but in relation to the facilities of the play area and a playground, they feel uneasy because infants cannot romp to the fullest because of using together with students of an elementary school.
As for the guidance of a light meal, food supply, and diet by a kindergarten, mothers carry out a light meal with milk or bread, rotating every Saturday, and the food supply is performed according to a menu-schedule table from Monday through Friday by a dietitian because there is a kindergarten within an elementary school, thus they are mostly satisfying.
It was shown that teachers are well instructing the meal etiquette for infants.
As to a commuting method between a kindergarten and a home, it was shown that parents directly commute up to a kindergarten because of being even close distance and of being restless about sending infants alone due to dangerous facilities such as a crosswalk and a signal lamp.
