This study provide a review of the actual condition of the education of the children of multicultural family in South Kyeonsang Province, in view of the fact that the international marriage increases every year and in consequence, the number of multicultural families increases rapidly.
This study consisted of a survey among parents of multicultural family who had primary school children and their class teachers, in researching the environment of the multicultural family, the multicultural children'sschool life and the demands of the parents and the teachers to the school and the local Educational Office. The results reveal that :
Firstly, there were no difference among nationalities in regard of the recognition of their children's education, such as level of aspiration for their children's education, the problem in the children's school life, the degree of concern of the classteachers and the demands in the education. This suppose that they, regardless of nationality, undergo similar difficulties or problems in their children's education.
Secondly, there were few case that the children in the multicultural family could not adapt to the school life. It relates to a matter that many surveyed children were of mixed blood Sino-Koreans or Japano-Koreans, in consequence, with similar appearance to Koreans and they were primary school children
Thirdly, there were a difference between urban children of multicultural family and rural children of multicultural family in regard of the learning in school life. The urban children had higher scholastic achievementthan rural children and had also active learning attitude. This difference shows that the rural children have a little opportunity for access to the education and therefore it is necessary to make efforts to solve this problem.
Fourthly, the teachers, in general, had lack of understanding of the necessity of the multicultural education. Considering that our society in future enter into the multicultural regime, this is a huge problem. Therefore, first of all, it needs to proceed the multicultural education training for teachers to promote their understanding. It needs also to be concerned about the multicultural education for the students and the public.
Fifthly, there were little exchange of informationbetween teachers and parents of multicultural family. As shown on survey results, the parents of the children of the multicultural family were highly concerned about their children's education, and want to exchange the information of the children's education with teachers. It needs to provide the school and each local Educational Office with the plan to revitalize the exchange of information to satisfy such parents' concern.
Finally, the demands of the parents or the teachers to the school or theEducational Office were financial support, pre-school teacher support, opening of an Korean language course, and so on. To solve such problems, it is necessary to establish a official support system. It needs urgently the operational support for the program of 'the education after school' such as Korean language guidance, study guidance, cultural experiment education, and so on.
It needs from now on to continue to research on the children of the multicultural family. This study was performed particularly on the multicultural family made by the marriage with Japanese or Chinese, but as the marriage with Vietnamese, Mongolian, Uzbekistanian, increases, it needs more studies on diverse multicultural families. Besides, this study was performed on the primary school childrenof multicultural family, and it is expected that when they enter the secondary school, it would be produce other problems to them at puberty. Therefore, subsequent studies should continue so as to find a way to live together in the multicultural society.
