The purpose of this study was to examine cross-situational consistency and temporal stability of children's subjective well-being using Experience Sampling Method(ESM). Furthermore, children who participated in this study were clustered according to affect stability and of scores positive affect and negative affect. The participants in ESM were 199 students attending fifth and sixth grade from eight elementary schools. They completed experience sampling form, 'Now I am...' including 'Students' Life Satisfaction Scale' and 'Positive Affect and Negative Affect Scale for Children' at 2 random times a day for five days.
The results of this study were as follows:
First, the level of Korea children's subjective well-being was not so high.
Second, there was no significant difference between scores of children's subjective well-being. This result meant children's subjective well-being had cross-situational consistency.
Third, two factors of children's subjective well-being were reported stable over time but life satisfaction was more stable than positive and negative affect.
Fourth, children who participated in this study were clustered into 5 types. There were four groups that reported consistency (1)high positive affect and low negative affect(clusterⅠ), (2)high negative affect(clusterⅡ), (3)all the affect on the average(clusterⅢ) and (4)all the affect under the average(clusterⅣ) in the stable type. Finally, there was one group(clusterⅤ) in the unstable type.
