Due to the development of industrial technology in current society, quality, which used to be a prioritized point of distinction, no longer applies as a superior factor.
By reflecting the essential needs of the consumer and forming a product image, brands induce buying motivation in consumers so it can be said that consumers put more importance on the brand image of a product than in the characteristics of the product itself and that they are buying a brand rather than the product itself.
Therefore, although businesses can imitate each other's product functions and quality, they cannot imitate brand image, recognition and loyalty. In other words, brands have been acknowledged as the greatest assets of business and have become subjects of focused management.
However, it is not easy to effectively manage brands in current marketing environments of rapid change. Development in industrial technology, changes in consumer actions, and increased business competition have made it harder to construct strong brands. Moreover, brands are not fixed, unchanging assets, but are like living organisms and therefore need constant management. Also, since brands stray from the original characteristics of the product and have continuous relations with the consumer, long-term brand management suited to lifetime cycles must be performed.
High brand recognition is a necessary preceding stage in the construction of brand assets, but it is not enough. For stronger brand assets to be constructed, positive brand image formations are demanded as well. Brand images signify how brands are perceived, and this is formed as the union of various brand-related associations stored in the memory. Brand assets of specific brands form because they have a good image which differentiates them from competitive brands, but in reality, consumers form brand images based on experience, regardless of planned marketing of the business. Strong brand images are effectively and efficiently transmitted through integrated marketing communication after brand identities are developed and they are produced by planting strong, friendly, and unique brand associations. The visual usefulness of storytelling can be held as an effective method of making a brand image.
Businesses transmit meanings that surpass simple words through storytelling and such stories include a wide range of expression including visual images, design, sound and motion. Storytelling, which is seen visually, has been proven to be the most effective method in allowing the consumer to identify with the brand.
Such facts show that brands are more accurately interpreted and understood by consumers through storytelling than through any other communication form of business.
Therefore, this study wishes to analyze brand management aspects of business CI and BI, including storytelling according to brand image types from a viewpoint of long-term brand growth, acknowledging brands as an effective marketing device, instead of limiting itself to brand image and visual parts.
For this, after integrating analysis results of brand image and storytelling case analyses and future brand value and after the importance and influence of brand image in long-term brand growth, including storytelling, is assessed, and an effective direction is presented to maximize future brand value.
