노년기 부부갈등이 이혼행동에 미치는 영향 : 사회적 자원 활용과 문제해결 능력을 중심으로 = (The)influence of senescent marriage conflicts on divorce behaviors : the moderating effects of the utilization of social resources and problem-solving ability

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구에서는 노년기의 부부갈등이 이혼행동에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고, 사회적 자원 활용과 문제해결 능력이 부부갈등에 의한 이혼행동을 완화시키는지를 살펴보았다. 조사대상자는 서울 지역에 소재한 8개 노인시설을 이용하는 사람 중에서 부부 중 한 사람이 55세 이상인 노인으로 하였다. 자료 수집을 위해서는 2004년 12월부터 2005년 2월까지 연구자가 조사대상자를 직접 방문하여 설문지를 배포한 후 조사보조원의 도움 하에 응답자가 직접 기입하는 방법을 사용하였다. 총 457개의 자료가 수집되었으며 이흔이나 사별 등의 사례와 부실한 응답을 제외한 379사례를 분석하였다. 자료 분석을 위해서 SPSS 12.0을 사용하였으며, 신뢰도분석, 기술통계분석, t-test, ANOVA, 상관관계분석, 중다회귀분석 등의 기법을 사용하였다
연구결과, 부부갈등은 이혼생각과 이혼시도 모두를 증가시키는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 사회적 자원 활용과 문제해결 능력은 부부갈등에 의한 이흔생각과 이혼시도 모두를 감소시킬 수 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이를 이흔생각과 이흔시도로 구분하여 구체적으로 살펴보자면, 먼저 이혼생각에 관해서는 노년기 부부갈등이 높을수록 이혼생각이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 부부갈등의 하위차원 중에서는 의사소통 영역과 가정생활 영역이 이혼생각에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 사회적 자원 활용은 부부갈등에 의한 이혼생각을 감소시키는 것으로 나타났는데, 자녀자원, 친구자원, 공식적 자원 등 3가지 하위 차원이 모두 이혼생각을 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다.
또한 문제해결 능력의 경우에 그 효과가 적기는 하지만 부부갈등에 의한 이혼생각을 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다. 문제해결 능력의 하위차원 중에서는 문제해결에 대한 자신감과 개인적 통제가 이혼생각을 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다.
다음으로 이혼시도에 관해서는, 노년기 부부갈등이 높을수록 이혼시도가 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 부부갈등의 하위차원 중에서는 의사소통 영역파 가정생활영역이 이혼시도에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 사회적 자원 활용은 부부갈등에 의한 이혼시도를 감소시키는 것으로 나타났으며, 자녀자원, 친구자원, 공식적 자원 등 3가지 하위 차원이 모두 이혼시도를 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 문제해결 능력 역시 그 효과가 작기는 하지만 부부갈등에 의한 이흔시도를 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다. 문제해결능력의 하위차원 중에서는 문제해결에 대한 자신감과 개인적 통제 등이 이혼시도를 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다.
본 연구는 이혼에 관련된 행동적 표현을 기준으로 하여 이혼생각과 이흔시도로 나누어 이흔행동을 살펴보았고, 연구 대상자를 노년기 부부로 선정 하였다는 점에서 기존의 연구와 구별된다고 할 수 있다. 그리고 이혼행동을 증가시키는 부부갈등의 세부적인 요인들과 부부갈등에 의한 이흔행동을 감소시킬 수 있는 사회적 자원 활용과 문제해결 능력의 하위차원을 구체적으로 제시함으로써 부부갈등과 이혼문제로 고통 받고 있는 노년기 부부들에 대한 상담적 개입의 초점을 밝혀주고 있다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
이에 본 연구의 결과는 이혼 전 상담에서 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This research aims to investigate influences of the senescent marriage conflicts in regard to the divorce behaviors and whether the utilization of social resources and problem-solving ability reduces such behavioral pattern.
Subjects were those senescent married couples who are in use of eight welfare facilities for the aged, all situated in Seoul. Among these couples, any one partner aged over 55 were selected as the subjects for the study. Data collection was carried out by visiting residences from December 2004 to February 2005, where researcher distributed survey questionnaire and survey assistants aided in subjects filling out answers. Data from 379 out of 457 respondents were analyzed, excluding inappropriate responses provided by divorcees and widow/ers. Data was analyzed through reliability analysis, descriptive statistics analysis, t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis, using SPSS 12.0.
As a result, the senescent marriage conflicts increased both divorce intentions and divorce attempts. The utilization of social resources and problem-solving ability acted to reduce divorce intentions and divorce attempts caused by the senescent marriage conflicts. In considering divorce intentions and divorce attempts separately, divorce intentions increased as conflicts within senescent couples increased in severity. Among sub-dimensions in marriage conflicts, communication difficulties and domestic problems affected divorce intentions. Furthermore, the utilization of social resources proved to reduce divorce intentions caused by conflicts within senescent couples, among these, sub-dimensions such as offsprings, acquaintances and public resources played part. Also, although the effectiveness was slight, problem-solving ability set to reduce divorce intentions caused by conflicts within senescent couples. In the area of problem-solving ability, confidence with which to manage the problem and personal control lessened divorce intentions.
Divorce attempts showed to multiply as severity in conflicts within senescent couples worsened. Among sub-dimensions in marriage conflicts, communication difficulties and domestic problems influenced divorce attempts. Furthermore, the utilization of social resources proved to reduce divorce attempts caused by conflicts as mentioned above. Moreover, influences from offsprings, acquaintances and public resources all worked to lessen divorce attempts. Also, even though the effect was insignificant, problem-solving ability lessened divorce attempts. In the area of problem-solving ability, confidence with which to confront the conflicts and personal control lowered divorce intentions.
This research inquired into divorce behaviors through divorce intentions and divorce attempts based on behavioral expressions related to divorce. It is differentiated from existing studies based on the fact that senescent married couples were selected as subjects. It also identifies the increasing effects of factors such as communication difficulties and domestic problems, as well as the decreasing effects of the utilization of social resources and problem-solving ability on divorce behaviors. As a result, this research offers the basis for the counselling intervention focus for those who suffer from marital conflicts and divorces in old ages.
