The purpose of this research is to find the factors of job satisfaction and dissatisfaction in private Secondary school teachers and the difference according to the personal characteristic of the teachers.
This research is conducted at ten private secondary schools of Daegu, in November, 2004. For statistical analysis, the research conducted frequency analysis and test using SPSS for windows version 10.0.
The results of this analysis about research are summarized as follows.
First, the rate of teachers' satisfaction generally turned out to be high.
Second, teachers were dissatisfied with the procedure of handling tasks rather than satisfied as a whole. There were also a lot of teachers who thought that it was just common.
Third, the rate of teachers' dissatisfaction with the content and the method of training the teachers turned out to be high. The teachers were very satisfied with the opportunity of participating the training course.
Fourth, the teachers were highly satisfied with the communication in the schools.
Fifth, the degree of the dissatisfactions on a personal relationship with staff teachers within a school was somewhat high. But as a whole the degree of the satisfactions turned out to be high.
Sixth, the teachers, generally, were very satisfied with educational facilities but dissatisfied with the convenience facilities. Female teachers were less satisfied than male teachers.
Seventh, the teachers generally were dissatisfied with the personnel system, that is, adopting a new teacher. The female teachers and common teachers were more dissatisfied with the personnel system than the male teachers and the staff teachers.
Eighth, the teachers, generally, were dissatisfied with rewards and compensation system. It depends on sex, school, position and career. The satisfactions of male teachers, middle school teachers or experienced teachers were relatively lower than those of female teachers, high school teachers, new teachers. Especially, the staff teachers were much more dissatisfied with wages than the common teachers.
The recommendations of this research are as follows
First, the degree of the satisfaction in private secondary schools turned out to be lower as a whole. In order to work in a school with job satisfactions, there should be some systematic policies to improve official circumstances for teachers to be faithful to their job.
Second, there should be some leaders who will have to be in charge of good administrations.
The leadership of a school administer can improve the educational quality and the unity of the teachers. That is because the reasonal personnel and administration are the most basic factors.
Third, though the degree of the satisfaction turned out to be high in less than 5 years experienced groups, the situation proved to be reverse as time went on. There should be the change of wage system. So as to keep a job satisfaction, there should be a continuous economic morale.
First, there should be the improvement of the welfare facilities in working circumstances. Especially, there should be a better system in order to have a good working environment for female teachers.
Fourth, there should a steady effort for faithful personnel administrations and improved working conditions so as to satisfy in his or her assigned position and work and fulfill in teaching.
