Expanding diverse selective subjects in the 7th curriculum, film education could be considered as a regular subject at high school. With this systematic fulfillment, it is necessary for film education to develop teaching program for cultivating teachers, teaching materials, and new curriculum in advance. The teacher-training course since 2000 has been set up in many universities. Through this program, film teachers are released continuously. However, it is studying to develop teaching materials and curriculum for film education.
For the first time, developing teaching materials were accomplished by Film: How to read published by Film Studies Association of Korea(FISAK) and Korean Film Council(KFC) in 2004. With this film textbook, film education is progressing four areas such like selective subject, discretional activity, special interest, and extracurricular activity. In 2005, three kinds of film textbooks will be published.
Though the first high school film textbook Film: How to read is very meaningful publishing, it has a set of problems in the aspect of its content and structure. In this process, we are supposed to develop some new film textbook. Therefore, this study suggests the contents of film textbook and the theoretical approaches to the structure of film textbook. This paper mentioned that developing teaching materials has to focus on teachers and students using these textbooks.
This study based on the following approaches. First, this study researches on film education policy in Korea, and the 7th curriculum by starting film education at secondary school.
Second, I approach to the criteria of textbook including Film: How to read as a textbook authorized by the Ministry of Education.
Third, I confirm the identification of film textbook through analyzing other media textbook including film area.
Finally, this study analyzes the contents and structure system of film textbook, Film: How to read. Therefore, I point out the textbook's problems and suggest alternative film textbook, E-textbook and E-learning.
