The 7th Korean Language Education Program set 'the enhancement of creative use of the Korean Language' as its ultimate goal of Korean Language education. Thus, poem education, a part of Korean Language education in attaining the goal of developing 'creative human beings' required in the future society in the 21st century, must be directed toward the expansion of its area and the acceptance of creative thinking.
It is important in poem education in elementary schools to develop children's various abilities and functions of thinking such as sensitivity, imagination and creative thinking rather than to obtain literary knowledge so that they can respond sensitively to environments.
The subjects of this study was Forty two, sixth grade student in N Elementary School, The experiment was performed from April 2, 2003 to June 27, 2003 one times per week for 12 weeks. The experiment treatment was to listen a poem to the experiment group and stimulate linguistic creativity.
The Program used in this study was developed by a researcher in order to advance children creativity. The Test tool was my own making up question.
The results of this study were as follows.
First, Divergent Questions was statistically significant in creativity scores, Divergent Question positively affects development of children's creativity.
Second, a poem education method using creative thinking stimulates children's interest in poem writing activities, and provides a way to overcome difficulties in poem writing activities.
Third, when a creativity technique is adapted for Korean language education, learners can make expansive thinking activities, and as a result, improve their power of creative expression.
The result of the study show that proper question types of teachers in consideration of the children's distinction were significant factors to improve the children's creativity. So, I hope it's helpful to study children's Divergent Questions than simple memory questions which are in actual learning class room.
