1950-60년대 냉전문화의 번역과 김수영 = The Translation of Cold War Culture and Kim Su-young in the 1950s and 1960s

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The main purpose of this paper is to review the translation works of international literature by Kim Su-young in the 1950s and 1960s. After the Korean Liberation, the translation works by Kim Su-young remarkably revealed the esoteric poetry of Korea facing the symbolic power of the ``World``, that is, the West and America. For instance, the notions of the Beat Generation of the American young generation that he focused on and of the style (or flavor) that was projected into the European literatures were the products of cultural translation that had been useful in creating the critical context about the problems of the esoteric poetry. Therefore, going further from the explanation on the source of translation that influenced the literature of Kim Su-young, this paper puts the importance on examining the representation on the cold war and the international recognition of the Korean intellectuals by the translation works by Kim Su-young. After the Korean Liberation, on entering the period of ``Americanism``, Frequently mentioning the American movies, movie stars, and writers, Kim Su-young, was fascinated by the critical liberalism of the American intellectuals escaping from the tradition of the French modernity and started to translate the American democratic symbol of Whitman. As advanced researchers previously have reviewed, the Auden group not only called attention to the fact that the early criticism of Kim Su-young had originated from the English literature but also suggested that how Kim Su-young had dealt with the hegemonic change of politics and culture during the period of the rising Americanism and of the Encounter Group based on anticommunist cultural policies. In addition, representing the introductory method of the American journalism circles focusing on the possibility of the solidarity with Stalinism, Kim Su-young critically translated the Russian liberation literature that could be the contrary word of ``the Americanism`` in some aspects. Kim Su-young wanted to appreciate the Western literature that he had contacted in the Korean re-contextualization not simply in the translation of the Americanism.
