한국거주 이주노동자에 대한 신문의 보도 경향과 인식연구 = Comparative Analysis of Media on Migrant Workers in Korea

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study explored the main characteristics of news frames on migrant workers in Korea. The news writings are analyzed focusing on the news frames stressed by two nationals such as Chosun Ilbo and Hankyoreh Shinmun, and two locals Kyoungin Ilbo and Busan Ilbo. The results showed that Korean dailies observed migrant workers in Korea with prejudice. Korean newspapers considered the problems on migrant workers, which arose from compulsory explusion of laborers who were not registered on the ledger and from confused migrant workers system, to be social conflict and pathological phenomena. In addition, the Korean dailies reported that the migrant workers were objects of sympathy and pity, incompetent victims. According to the previous research, the problem on migrant workers is one of the critical global issues. But Korean news papers approach problems based on migrant workers skin-deep and sentimentally, and they double prejudice and fixed ideas for migrant workers. This research suggested that Korean media have to overcome prejudice and exclusion on migrant workers based on cultural pluralism.
