결혼이민 여성농업인의 전환학습에 관한 현상학적 연구 = A Phenomenological Study on Transformative Learning of Married Female Immigrant Farmers

The purpose of this study was to explore female farmers among immigrants by marriage who have acquired diverse experiences such as marriage, immigration, rural lives and agricultural activities, then to examine the meaning of their newly formed viewpoints from these experiences and the process of obtaining those viewpoints through in-depth understanding based on the Mezirow's theory of transformative learning.
As the study adopts the phenomenological method, the six married female immigrant farmers were chosen for the participants, who can be the model of active farming and successful settlement in their communities. The data were collected through in-depth interviews on the semi-structured interview guideline and participant observation. The topics were generated from the large classification set before the interviews by interpreting and analyzing the records focused on Mezirow(1991)'s transformative learning process, and Spradley's taxonomic analysis was utilized in the analysis on the transcribed record contents.
The major conclusions of the study were as follows: First, female immigrants by international marriage have gone through various experiences from marriage, immigration and rural lives, and these confusing experiences were originated from the totally changed environment before and after marriages. Second, the motives of female immigrants' participation in farming are generally four types: traditional role of women, a voluntary participation, asking of one's husband and a will to help one's family. Third, the process of transformative learning in married female immigrant farmers proceeded in time and stages, and go through the steps of the transformative learning process which Mezirow(1991) maintains.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구의 목적은 결혼을 통해 외국에서 한국으로 이주해 온 이민자 가운데 영농에 정착한 여성들이 겪은 결혼과 이민, 농촌생활 및 영농활동을 통해 새롭게 형성되거나 변화된 관점과 그 과정을 Mezirow의 전환학습이론에 기초하여 심층적으로 이해하고 탐구하는데 있었다. 연구 방법은 현상학적 연구방법이며, 연구 참여자는 우리나라에 결혼을 통해 이주해 온 여성 가운데 지역사회 내에서 적극적인 영농활동과 성공적인 정착으로 인정받고 있는 6명을 선정하였다.
자료 수집을 위해 참여관찰과 반구조화된 면담 가이드를 바탕으로 심층면담을 실시하였으며, 주제는 면담 전에 작성된 대분류를 토대로 Mezirow(1991)의 전환학습의 과정을 중심으로 판독하고 분석함으로써 생성하였는데, 전사된 내용은 Spradley(1980)의 분류체계분석(Taxonomic Analysis)을 응용하여 분석하였다.
이 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 결혼이민 여성들은 결혼과 함께 외국에서 한국으로 이주하여 농촌 생활을 시작하면서 다양한 경험을 하게 되는데, 이들의 경험은 결혼 전·후의 생활환경이 달라 초래되는 혼란스러운 것이었고 이를 통해 개인의 가치관과 생활방식이 바뀌게 되는 계기가 되었다. 둘째, 영농 참여 동기는 대체로 “전통적 역할 수행”,“자발적 참여”,“남편의 요구 수용”,“가족을 도와야 한다는 마음”으로 구분되는데, 최종적으로 영농 참여를 결심하기까지는 심리적으로 많은 갈등과 고민을 거친다. 셋째, Mezirow(1991)의 전환학습 이론에 비추어 볼 때, 우리나라 결혼이민 여성농업인들의 전환학습 과정은 시간의 흐름에 따라 단계적으로 일어나며, Mezirow가 제시한 단계들을 대체로 거치지만, 일부 단계는 복합적인 과정으로 함께 나타난다.
