청소년의 사이버폭력에 관련된 생태체계변인의 영향 = Influences of Eco-systemic Factors Related to Adolescents` Cyber Violence

The purpose of this study was to examine the factors related to youth cyber violence from an eco-systemic perspective, as youth violence has increasingly been rampant in cyber space. 1,303 middle and high school students aged between 13∼18 filled out questionnaire and the data were analyzed with hierarchical regression analysis. The major findings of the study were as follows: First, socio-demographic background brought differences in the frequency of cyber violence among youth. Boys with no siblings and father with more years of education committed cyber violence against both strangers and acquaintances more often. The longer the time spent on internet, the more commitment in online club activities, adolescents` tended to engage in cyber violence. Second, there were differences according to gender in the eco-systemic factors affecting cyber violence toward strangers and acquaintances. The biggest influential factor for committing cyber violence was environmental systems of cyber space regardless of gender. The girls were under the influence of family-related and school-related variables, whereas the boys were affected by personal factors and cyber environmental variables. Besides, there were marked differences in the types of cyber violence. Spending more time on the Internet had a greater impact on offering cyber violence to strangers people, and being more aware of the anonymity of the Internet exerted a larger influence on committing cyber violence toward acquaintances. Given the findings of the study, how to prevent youth cyber violence and provide intervention for that was discussed, and some of the right directions for future research efforts were discussed as well.
