상담관계의 두 가지 측면: 작업동맹과 실제관계 = Two Perspectives of Therapeutic Relationship: Working Alliance and Real Relationship

The aim of this paper is to review two theoretical perspectives of understanding therapeutic relationship in counseling and psychotherapy. Therapeutic relationship has been confused with working alliance or therapeutic alliance in previous studies on counseling relationship. In this paper, we explained how these concepts have been developed and why they have been used with confusion. We attempted to clarify therapeutic relationship using two primary perspectives: working alliance and real relationship, which are similar but theoretically different. We provided the definitions of working alliance and relationship, research trend, and empirical research in the related field. We particularly examined differences in perceptions of counseling relationship between counselors and clients, change of therapeutic relationship across the counseling sessions, and inter-relationship between working alliance and real relationship. We also discussed the limitations of previous studies on therapeutic relationship and suggested future research directions.
