한반도 신석기시대 복합수렵채집 사회 성격 시론 = Characteristics of Neolithic Chulmun Complex Hunter-gatherers in Korean Peninsula

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study focuses on the characteristics of lifeways of sedentary Chulmun hunter-gatherers in Korean peninsula with a topic of complex hunter-gatherers.
Complex hunter-gatherers are characterized by sedentary village life, development of specialized technology, strategy of storage, social differentiation and institutionalization of the hierarchy, long-distance exchange and so on. Those originally were regarded as proxies of one after agrarian societies.
The analysis of data and research on the Initial to Middle phase of the Neolithic period of the Midwest Korean Peninsula shows that hunter-gatherers in the period had considerable amount of proxies of the complex hunter-gatherers. However, simply assigning certain societies as the complex hunter-gatherers with the existence of such characteristics or not is not sufficient. Rather, varieties of each group should be explained by the degree of each categories, not by their existence.
In this sense, the Chulmun societies of the Initial to Middle phase in the Midwest Korean Peninsula represent complex hunter-gatherers with characteristics of sedentary life based on pit-dwellings in a village, mundane strategy of storage, development of highly specialized technology, intermittent long-distance exchange, initial crop cultivation after the Early phase, horizontal social-differentiation rather than institutionalization of hierarchy and possible presence of leaders who had acquired status.
