사회적 자본이 학교적응에 미치는 영향 -초등학교와 중학교 시기의 비교를 중심으로- = The variations of effects of social capital on school adjustment

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to examine the variations on school adjustment of children during the transition from primary to middle school and to analyse the effects of social capital on school adjustment. Data comes from the first and forth waves of family members and children`s supplementary surveys of the Korea Welfare Panel Study(KWPS). The results show that the level of school adjustment during the primary school period is higher than during the middle school period. Secondly, the effects of social capital on school adjustment are statistically significant during the period of primary school even after controlling for the economic capital variables. Specifically, lower level of parents` neglect, higher level of peer attachment are associated with higher level of school adjustment during the primary school age. Third, single parents, parents` neglect, peer attachment and cultural experience programs are significant social capital variables on middle school adjustment. According to sex, the higher level of parents` neglect affects negatively on male students` school adjustment and the more number of cultural experience programs affects positively on females` school adjustment. Finally, the implications of this study findings for the roles of social capital on primary and middle school adjustment are discussed.
