내현적 자기애가 사회불안에 미치는 영향: 내면화된 수치심과 사회적 자기효능감의 매개효과 = The Influences of Covert Narcissism on Social Anxiety: The Mediating Effects of Internalized Shame and Social Self-Efficacy

The purpose of this study is to set up a causal structure model separately mediated by internalized shame and social self-efficacy regarding the effects of covert narcissism on social anxiety and verify empirically the model’s goodness-of-fit and the mediating effects of the parameters based on the theories and advanced research findings related with social anxiety. To attain the goal, the paper formulates its study questions as follows: First, is this study’s hypothesis model established with advanced research as its ground appropriate for the data? Second, does covert narcissism influence social anxiety significantly with the mediation of internalized shame and social self-efficacy? To solve the above study questions, this article adopts the following procedures: 265 students of universities located in Seoul or Gyeonggi agree to fill in the self-administered questionnaire sheet. After checking if the data collected are appropriate for analyzing the structural equation model and applying the structural equation model, the study verifies whether the hypothesis model is appropriate and also the 2 parameters’ mediating effects are significant. The study model is verified with Mplus7, and lastly, the significance of their mediating effects is verified through Delta test. The results of the analysis are summed up as below: First, the study’s hypothesis model is found to be appropriate for the data. Second, regarding the effects of covert narcissism on social anxiety, internalized shame and social self-efficacy do complete mediation separately. This study implies that its hypothesis model explaining social anxiety by adopting covert narcissism, internalized shame, and social self-efficacy as its variables is appropriate. Moreover, in the correlation between covert narcissism and social anxiety, it has been found that internalized shame and social self-efficacy play mediating roles. Therefore, this study is significant in that it establishes both theoretical and empirical evidence to understand dynamics among variables more clearly and also suggests effective therapeutic hypotheses and intervention after figuring out adaptation factors easier to be dealt with in the actual counseling situation to treat social anxiety.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 내현적 자기애가 사회불안에 미치는 영향에서 내면화된 수치심, 사회적 자기효능감이 각각 매개하는 인과적 구조모형을 설정하고 모형의 적합도 및 매개변인들의 매개효과를 경험적으로 확인하였다. 이를 위해 서울, 경기 소재 대학에 재학 중인 대학생 265명의 연구대상으로부터 얻은 자료를 분석한 결과 첫째, 본 연구의 가설모형은 자료에 적합하다는 것을 확인하였다. 내현적 자기애 성향은 내면화된 수치심과 사회적 자기효능감에 각각 정적, 부적 영향력을 나타내었고, 이에 따라 사회불안에 정적, 부적 영향력을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 모형에서 내현적 자기애, 내면화된 수치심, 사회적 자기효능감은 사회불안 변량의 61%를 설명하는 것으로 나타나 이는 내현적 자기애와 내면화된 수치심, 사회적 자기효능감을 변인으로 채택하여 사회불안을 설명한 본 연구의 가설모형이 적절함을 시사한다. 둘째, 내현적 자기애가 사회불안에 미치는 영향에서 내면화된 수치심, 사회적 자기효능감이 각각 완전매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 내현적 자기애가 사회불안에 직접적으로 영향을 미치기보다는 상대적으로 많은 부분이 내면화된 수치심과 사회적 자기효능감에 의해 간접적으로 영향을 미치는 것을 확인하였다. 이때, 내현적 자기애가 사회불안에 미치는 총 간접효과에서 각각의 매개변인이 차지하는 비중은 내면화된 수치심이 약 60%, 사회적 자기효능감이 약 40%로 나타나, 상대적으로 내면화된 수치심의 매개역할이 다소 크다는 것을 확인하였다. 본 연구결과를 토대로 내현적 자기애와 사회불안 관련 변인들 간의 관계 및 상담실제에 대한 시사점과 후속연구에 대한 제언을 논하였다.
