유아 봉사학습의 의미와 실천 방향 탐색 = Service-learning in early childhood education: The ‘What’ and the ‘How’

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The researchers aimed to bring conceptual clarity and pedagogical ideas to the Service-learning (S-L) in early childhood education. In this paper, the following questions are asked: "What does mean ‘S-L in early childhood' in terms of philosophical and theoretical perspectives regarding teaching and learning?" and "How can early childhood teachers transform the S-L into pedagogical practice in their site?" Through literature review we found that the S-L in early childhood holds several conceptual meanings such as 1) experiences in real-world and reflections on them 2) learning opportunities for becoming a ethical and participatory global citizen, and 3) the subject’s actions toward transformative pedagogy. Accordingly, several practical suggestions for effective S-L connected with the early childhood curriculum were discussed.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

봉사학습(Service-Learning)은 학습자의 사회봉사와 학습을 결합한 개념으로, 다양한 분야에서 주목을 받고 있다. 형식적 학습의 초기 단계부터 봉사학습을 체계화 하여 실천하고 있는 국외 현황과 비교해 볼 때, 우리나라에서는 어린 학습자들의 봉사학습에 관한 이론적 탐구나 그 교육적 실천은 매우 미흡한 실정이다. 유아교육 분야에서 봉사학습에 관한 연구나 교육적인 실천을 활성화하기 위해 그 선행 작업으로서 철학적, 이론적 관점에서 봉사학습의 의미나 가치를 탐색할 필요가 있으며, 교육적 실천 방안에 관한 다양한 대화 또한 요구된다. 이에 본 연구에서는 진보주의적 교육철학, 세계시민교육론, 비판적 교육학의 관점에서 유아봉사학습의 의미를 탐색하였다. 이를 통해 유아의 경험과 반성적 사고를 지향하며, 인류의 보편적 윤리와 사회 참여를 추구하고, 학습에서의 유아와 유아교사의 주체성을 강조한다는 점에서 유아 봉사학습의 교육적 의미를 제시하였다. 그리고 유아 봉사학습의 실천을 위한 주요 요소로 참여성과 반성성에 관해 기술하면서, 유아교육과정에서 프로젝트 학습을 통한 봉사학습의 실천을 제안하였다.
