우리나라 그림책의 프랑스 번역판의 파라텍스트 변형 연구-판형과 제본, 표지, 면지, 종이 재질을 중심으로- = A Study on Transform of Paratext of Korean Picture Books Published in French -Focusing on format, bookbinding, cover page, end paper and paper’s quality-

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Unlike other literary genres, picture books possess a unique type of art form that involvesparatexte’s physical and visual elements such as cover, format, and end paper. During thisglobalized era, France publishes picture books imported from Korea upon the purchase ofpublication rights. It is evitable that certain area gets modified during the translation process,but picture book translations should aim to best deliver the author’s intentions and the culturalvalues. This research examined the modifications occurred in the paratexte of the Frenchtranslation of Korean picture books and identified the differences and errors occurred in lightof the dynamic equivalence realization. Methodologies used in the research was to compareand analyze the format, bookbinding, cover, end paper, and paper’s quality for the paratexteof 12 French translations to the original Korean picture books. Research result showed thatthe original pictures were damaged due to resizing of the book and the narration stream wasaltered as the end paper being modified. It was also shown that the modification, expansion,or omission of the picture on the cover page has caused the author’s intension and topics tobe overlooked. The picture on the cover page of the original picture book which placed moreemphasis on the portrayal of the background and circumstance of the story changed to picturesdepicting mainly on the characters for the cover page of the translated picture book. It wasalso noted during the research that for ease of reading, the cover page layouts were designedto focus on the letter text for the original picture book and on the image text for the translatedpicture book. Through this research, differences and issues were investigated and suggestionsfor improvements for the foreign translations were formulated.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

일반도서와 달리 그림책은 파라텍스트의 물리적, 시각적 요소인 표지, 판형, 면지 등도 작품의 의미생성에 참여하는 독특한 예술형태를 가지고 있다. 국제화시대에 우리나라 그림책이 프랑스로 판권이 수입되어 활발히 출간되고있다. 이때 번역과정에서 불가피하게 이루어지는 변형들이 있지만, 번역그림책은 최대한 저자의 의도와 문화적가치를 잘 전달해야 한다. 본 연구는 우리나라 그림책의 프랑스 번역판의 파라텍스트의 변형을 살펴보고 역동적등가 실현에 비추어 그 문제점과 차이점을 알아보고자 한다. 연구방법으로 불어로 번역 출판된 우리나라 그림책12권과 원본그림책 12권을 합한 총 24권의 그림책을 대상으로 파라텍스트 중에서 물리적, 시각적 요소인 판형과 제본, 표지, 면지, 종이의 재질과 색상을 비교 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 판형의 변형으로 인하여 원본그림의 훼손 현상이 일어났고, 면지의 변형으로 인해 서사의 흐름이 바뀌었다. 그리고 표지의 그림이 변형, 확대, 생략되면서 저자의 의도와 주제가 간과되는 문제점이 발견되었다. 차이점으로는 원본표지의 배경과 상황을 묘사하는 이미지가 번역본 표지에서는 인물 위주의 이미지로 변형되었고, 원본표지는 글 텍스트 중심으로 번역본 표지에서는 그림텍스트 중심으로 장면배열 된 점을 알 수 있었다.
