한국현대설치미술에 나타난 노마디즘연구 = A Study of the influence of Nomadism on Korean contemporary installation art

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

For modern people living in the network society of compressed time and space, the past physical boundary is getting meaningless, and nomadic way of life moving freely from space to space is becoming a life. Due to this phenomenon, the term nomadism has become one of the cultural code as the interpretation of the modern society throughout culture across the arts. While nomadism originally reflected nomad’s life consistently on the move to enjoy a better life, it was introduced as the philosophical concept by Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari and extended to the cultural concept by Jacques Attali. Today, the origin meaning of nomadism which has been overly used as the concept code for analyzing education, shopping, arts, and even politics has been diluted.
In order to study the concept of intrinsic nomadism and the concepts changed and extended in modern society, this paper reviews the nomadism of Deleuze and Guattari as well as the core concept of Attali’s nomadism, and analyzes the influence of nomadism toward the modern installation art works. The method of the study explored the concept of Deleuze's war machine and sitting nomad and Jacques Attali's homo-nomad and digital nomad. Then, it proposed the framework from the characteristics of the theories to analyze the works of Korean modern installation artists having nomadic characteristics. This process will induce the focus on epidermic nomadism of Korean contemporary art to on the work of artists which is the integration of thoughts and creativity, revisit the sprit of the nomad diluted by misuse, and give an opportunity to look into identity and current state of nomadism melt into Korean contemporary art.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

시공간이 압축된 네트워크사회 속에서 살고 있는 현대인들에게 과거의 물리적 경계는 점점 의미를 잃어 가며 자유롭게 이동하는 유목적 생활이 삶의 방식으로 자리 잡아가고 있다. 이러한 과정으로 인하여 노마디즘이라는 용어는 문화 예술분야 뿐 아니라 현대 사회의 전반을 해석하는 하나의 문화코드가 되어버렸다. 노마디즘이란 원래 생존과 더 좋은 삶을 누리기 위해 끊임없이 이동하는 노마드의 생활방식을 반영한 개념으로 질 들뢰즈와 펠릭스 가타리에 의해 철학적 개념으로 등장하였으며 자크 아탈리에 의해 문화적 개념으로 확장되었다. 그러나 오늘날 교육, 쇼핑, 예술, 정치까지 아우르는 분석코드로 대두된 노마디즘은 점점 그 의미의 과잉으로 본연의 의미들을 희석 시키고 있다. 본 논문은 이러한 흐름 속에서 노마디즘의 본연의 의미와 현대에 와서 변환되고 확장된 개념들을 고찰해보기 위하여 들뢰즈 가타리의 노마디즘과 자크 아탈리의 노마디즘의 핵심개념을 살펴보고 이들의 개념들로 한국현대설치미술가들의 노마드성향의 작품들을 분석 하고자 한다. 연구방법으로 들뢰즈 가타리의 노마디즘 이론의 핵심개념인 전쟁기계와 앉아서 하는 유목의 개념을 살펴보고 자크 아탈리의 노마디즘 핵심개념인 호모노마드, 디지털 노마드의 개념을 정리하여 거기서 추출된 이론의 특성들을 작품분석의 틀로 제시하고, 이렇게 추출된 4가지 분석틀로 노마디즘 성향의 작품을 펼치고 있는 한국현대 설치미술가들의 작품을 분석하였다. 이러한 작업은 표피적으로 드러난 한국현대미술의 노마디즘 현상에 대한 포커스를 사유와 창조성의 집약체인 작가들의 작품으로 구체적으로 끌어 들임으로써 정체성의 혼란을 겪고 있는 노마드의 정신을 되짚어보고 현대한국미술에 녹아든 노마디즘의 정체성과 현주소를 고찰해보는 좋은 계기가 될 것이다.
