Synthesis of PdP Nanoparticles as Electrocatalysts for Hydrogen Evolution Reaction in an Alkaline Medium

        Ming Zhao,Ming Zhao,Bin Tong,Zinan Kang,Yanfang Wu,Wei Ding,Baoming Feng 성균관대학교(자연과학캠퍼스) 성균나노과학기술원 2019 NANO Vol.14 No.5

The synthesis of PdP nanoparticles (NPs) using triphenylphosphine as a phosphorus precursor was investigated. The electrocatalytic performance of PdP NPs in hydrogen evolution reaction in an alkaline medium was measured. It can be concluded that when the current density is 10 mA cm -2, the overpotential produced by Pd3P0.95 NPs is 75mV which is 185mV lower than that produced by commercial Pd/C. The mass activity of Pd3P0.95 NPs is more than twice as high as that of commercial Pd/C. The work indicates that PdP nanomaterials could be a potential catalyst for water splitting.

Effect of the COMBDry Dewatering Process on Combustion Reactivity and Oxygen-Containing Functional Groups of Dried Lignite

        Zhao, Yaying,Zhao, Guangbo,Sun, Rui,Liu, Hui,Wang, Zhuozhi,Sihyun, Lee,Kong, Ming American Chemical Society 2017 ENERGY AND FUELS Vol.31 No.4

<P>Two typical types of Chinese lignite samples were employed to investigate the coal drying characteristics of an innovative COMBDry lignite drying system. The drying rate increased significantly with an increase in drying temperature and ratio of the flue gas, to the lignite. Using a nitrogen adsorption instrument, it was found that the drying process promoted generation and enlargement of the surface pore structures of the particles, which can enhance coal combustion rate. A horizontally fixed bed furnace and a SIGNAL S4i pulsar NDIR (infrared (IR)) gas analyzers were used to investigate the combustion characteristics of coal samples after the drying treatment. In an attempt to analyze the variation in the sample surface chemical structure during the drying process, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrometry and Raman spectroscopy were employed for the investigation. The results showed that the concentration of aliphatic hydrogen decreased with an increase in drying temperature and resulted from the decomposition of oxygen-containing complexes (released CO and CO2) and reaction with hydroxyl groups. The number of functional groups decreased when the drying temperature exceeded 210 degrees C. The amount of carbonyl and carboxylic esters initially increased and then (210 degrees C) decreased with an increase in flue gas temperature, and the content of aromatic carbon was unchanged with the treatment. The ordered crystalline carbon changed into the crystal defect structure and amorphous carbon and the degree of graphitization decreased and thus the combustion reactivity of the dried lignite was improved.</P>

Development of High Spectral Resolution Lidar System for Measuring Aerosol and Cloud

        Ming Zhao,Chen-Bo Xie,Zhiqing Zhong,Bang-Xin Wang,Zhenzhu Wang,Pang-Da Dai,Zhen Shang,Min Tan,Dong Liu,Yingjian Wang 한국광학회 2015 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.19 No.6

A high spectral resolution lidar (HSRL) system based on injection-seeded Nd:YAG laser and iodineabsorption filter has been developed for the quantitative measurement of aerosol and cloud. The laserfrequency is stabilized at 80 MHz by a frequency locking system and the absorption line of iodine cellis selected at the 1111 line with 2 GHz width. The observations show that the HSRL can provide verticalprofiles of particle extinction coefficient, backscattering coefficient and lidar ratio for cloud and aerosolup to 12 km altitude, simultaneously. For the measured cases, the lidar ratios are 10~20 sr for cloud,28~37 sr for dust, and 58~70 sr for urban pollution aerosol. It reveals the potential of HSRL to distinguishthe type of aerosol and cloud. Time series measurements are given and demonstrate that the HSRL hasability to continuously observe the aerosol and cloud for day and night

      • 8q24 rs4242382 Polymorphism is a Risk Factor for Prostate Cancer among Multi-Ethnic Populations: Evidence from Clinical Detection in China and a Meta-analysis

        Zhao, Cheng-Xiao,Liu, Ming,Xu, Yong,Yang, Kuo,Wei, Dong,Shi, Xiao-Hong,Yang, Fan,Zhang, Yao-Guang,Wang, Xin,Liang, Si-Ying,Zhao, Fan,Zhang, Yu-Rong,Wang, Na-Na,Chen, Xin,Sun, Liang,Zhu, Xiao-Quan,Yuan Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.19

Background: Evidence supporting an association between the 8q24 rs4242382-A polymorphism and prostate cancer (PCa) risk has been reported in North American and Europe populations, though data from Asian populations remain limited. We therefore investigated this association by clinical detection in China, and meta-analysis in Asian, Caucasian and African-American populations. Materials and Methods: Blood samples and clinical information were collected from ethnically Chinese men from Northern China with histologically-confirmed PCa (n=335) and from age-matched normal controls (n=347). The 8q24 (rs4242382) gene polymorphism was genotyped by polymerase chain reaction-high-resolution melting analysis. We initially analyzed the associations between the risk allele and PCa and clinical covariates. A meta-analysis was then performed using genotyping data from a total of 1,793 PCa cases and 1,864 controls from our study and previously published studies in American and European populations, to determine the association between PCa and risk genotype. Results: The incidence of the risk allele was higher in PCa cases than controls (0.222 vs 0.140, $P=7.3{\times}10^{-5}$), suggesting that the 8q24 rs4242382-A polymorphism was associated with PCa risk in Chinese men. The genotypes in subjects were in accordance with a dominant genetic model (ORadj=2.03, 95%CI: 1.42-2.91, $Padj=1.1{\times}10^{-4}$). Presence of the risk allele rs4242382-A at 8q24 was also associated with clinical covariates including age at diagnosis ${\geq}65$ years, prostate specific antigen >10 ng/ml, Gleason score <8, tumor stage and aggressive PCa, compared with the non-risk genotype ($P=4.6{\times}10^{-5}-3.0{\times}10^{-2}$). Meta-analysis confirmed the association between 8q24 rs4242382-A polymorphism and PCa risk (OR=1.62, 95%CI: 1.39-1.88, $P=1.0{\times}10^{-5}$) across Asian, Caucasian and African American populations. Conclusions: The replicated data suggest that the 8q24 rs4242382-A variation might be associated with increased PCa susceptibility in Asian, Caucasian and African American populations. These results imply that this polymorphism may be a useful risk biomarker for PCa in multi-ethnic populations.

      • Anti-proliferation Effects of Interferon-gamma on Gastric Cancer Cells

        Zhao, Ying-Hui,Wang, Tao,Yu, Guang-Fu,Zhuang, Dong-Ming,Zhang, Zhong,Zhang, Hong-Xin,Zhao, Da-Peng,Yu, Ai-Lian Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.9

IFN-${\gamma}$ plays an indirect anti-cancer role through the immune system but may have direct negative effects on cancer cells. It regulates the viability of gastric cancer cells, so we examined whether it affects their proliferation and how that might be brought about. We exposed AGS, HGC-27 and GES-1 gastric cancer cell lines to IFN-${\gamma}$ and found significantly reduced colony formation ability. Flow cytometry revealed no effect of IFN-${\gamma}$ on apoptosis of cell lines and no effect on cell aging as assessed by ${\beta}$-gal staining. Microarray assay revealed that IFN-${\gamma}$ changed the mRNA expression of genes related to the cell cycle and cell proliferation and migration, as well as chemokines and chemokine receptors, and immunity-related genes. Finally, flow cytometry revealed that IFN-${\gamma}$ arrested the cells in the G1/S phase. IFN-${\gamma}$ may slow proliferation of some gastric cancer cells by affecting the cell cycle to play a negative role in the development of gastric cancer.

      • Extracting Recurrent Phrases and Terms from Texts Using a Purely Statistical Method

( Zhao Ming Gao ),( Harold Somers ) 한국언어정보학회 1998 국제 워크샵 Vol.1998 No.-

Most statistical measures for extracting interesting word pairs such as MI and t-score require a large corpus to work well. This paper evaluates some of the most widely used statistical measures and introduces a method that can identify significant bigrams in relatively small texts by adapting Fung and Church`s (1994) K-vec algorithm, which was originally designed to extract word correspondences from unaligned parallel corpora. The proposed method captures the linguistic generalisation abou lexical patterning in texts and can identify recurrent co-occurring word sequences, which might be phrases, terms, or unknown words. In addition, it has the potential of identifying key phrases and terms that reveal topicality in a text.

Analysis of Ferrous on Ten-Eleven Translocation Activity and Epigenetic Modifications of Early Mouse Embryos by Fluorescence Microscopy

        Zhao, Ming-Hui,Liang, Shuang,Guo, Jing,Choi, Jeong-Woo,Kim, Nam-Hyung,Lu, Wen-Fa,Cui, Xiang-Shun Cambridge University Press 2016 Microscopy and Microanalysis Vol.22 No.2

<B>Abstract</B><P>Iron is an essential trace element that plays important roles in the cellular function of all organs and systems. However, the function of Fe(II) in mammalian embryo development is unknown. In this study, we investigated the role of Fe(II) during preimplantation embryo development. Depletion of Fe(II) using thiosemicarbazone-24 (TSC24), a specific Fe(II) chelator, rescued quenching of the Fe(II)-sensitive fluorophore phen green-SK. After <I>in vitro</I> fertilization, TSC24 significantly reduced the cleavage rate as well as blastocyst formation. The hatch rate of blastocysts was also reduced with 1 pM TSC24 treatment (20.25±1.86 versus 42.28±12.96%, <I>p</I><0.05). Blastocysts were cultured in leukemia inhibitory factor-free mouse embryonic stem cell culture medium with or without TSC24, and those with depleted Fe(II) displayed delayed attachment and lost the ability to induce embryoid body formation. To further explore the mechanism of Fe(II) in embryo development, we assessed the expression of 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) and OCT4 in the pronuclear and blastocyst stages, respectively. We observed that Fe(II) reduced 5hmC and OCT4 expression, which could be explained by low ten-eleven translocation (TET) enzyme activity induced by TSC24 treatment. These findings demonstrate that Fe(II) is required for mammalian embryo development and that it facilitates the process via regulation of TET activity.</P>

A Novel Dynamic Spectrum Access Algorithm for Cognitive Radio Networks

Zhao, Ming,Yin, Chang-Chuan,Wang, Xiao-Jun The Korea Institute of Information and Commucation 2013 Journal of communications and networks Vol.15 No.1

This paper proposes a new dynamic spectrum access (DSA) algorithm for cognitive radio networks. Once initialized, this algorithm works without the need of coordination overhead and hence can be used when no control channel is available. Secondary user (SU) lists and predetermined access control are used in this algorithm. We analyze the probability of no SU collision with primary user and the throughput of our proposed algorithm. Extensive simulations show that our algorithm outperforms the existing DSA algorithm in terms of both the aggregate throughput and the traffic distribution fairness. Furthermore, the validity of our analysis is confirmed by simulation results.

Synthesis of a Novel Anthraquinone Diamino-Bridged Bis(β-cyclodextrin) and Its Cooperative Binding toward Guest Molecules

Zhao, Yan,Yang, Zi Ming,Chi, Shao Ming,Gu, Juan,Yang, Yong Cun,Huang, Rong,Wang, Bang Jin,Zhu, Hong You Korean Chemical Society 2008 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.29 No.5

A novel anthraquinone diamino-bridged bis($\beta$ -cyclodextrin) 2 was synthesized. The inclusion complexation behaviors of the native $\beta$ -cyclodextrin 1 and the novel bis($\beta$ -cyclodextrin) 2 with guests, such as acridine red (AR), neutral red (NR), ammonium 8-anilino-1-naphthalenesulfonate (ANS), sodium 2-(p-toluidinyl) naphthalenesulfonate (TNS) and rhodamine B (RhB) were investigation by fluorescence, circular dichroism and 2D NMR spectroscopy. The spectral titrations were performed in phosphate buffer (pH 7.20) at 25 ${^{\circ}C}$ to give the complex stability constants (Ks) and Gibbs free energy changes (−${\Delta}G^0$) for the stoichiometric 1:1 inclusion complexation of host 1 and 2 with guests. The results indicated that the novel bis($\beta$ -cyclodextrin) 2 greatly enhanced the original binding affinity of the native $\beta$ -cyclodextrin 1. Typically, bis($\beta$ -cyclodextrin) 2 showed the highest binding constant towards ANS up to 34.8 times higher than that of 1. The 2D NMR spectra of bis($\beta$ -cyclodextrin) 2 with RhB and TNS were performed to confirm the binding mode. The increased binding affinity and molecular selectivity of guests by bis($\beta$ -cyclodextrin) 2 were discussed from the viewpoint of the size/shape-fit concept and multipoint recognition mechanism.

Phenotypic Characterization of Ligamentum Flavum Cells from Patients with Ossification of Ligamentum Flavum

        Zhao-Ming Zhong,Jian-Ting Chen 연세대학교의과대학 2009 Yonsei medical journal Vol.50 No.3

Purpose: The objective of this study was to determine the phenotypic characterization of ligamentum flavum cells from patients with ossification of the ligamentum flavum (OLF). Materials and Methods: Ligamentum flavum tissues were harvested from OLF and non-OLF patients during surgery. OLF and non-OLF cells were isolated from explant cultures. Cultured cells were analyzed using immunofluorescence staining and reverse transcriptionpolymerase chain reaction. Results: OLF cells exhibited various appearances compared with the typical fibroblastlike morphology of non-OLF cells. Expressions of collagen type I and collagen type III were observed in OLF and non-OLF cells. OLF cells uniquely expressed osteocalcin, which is a marker for osteoblasts, and collagen type II which is a marker for chondrocytes, whereas they were negative in non-OLF cells. Conclusion: These findings indicate that OLF cells have phenotypic characterization of osteoblasts and chondrocytes which could play a role in the pathophysiology of OLF.
