      • The effects of Mg2Si(p) on microstructure and mechanical properties of AA332 composite

        Zainon, Fizam,Ahmad, Khairel Rafezi,Daud, Ruslizam Techno-Press 2016 Advances in materials research Vol.5 No.1

This paper describes a study on the effects of $Mg_2Si_{(p)}$ addition on the microstructure, porosity, and mechanical properties namely hardness and tensile properties of AA332 composite. Each composite respectively contains 5, 10, 15, and 20 wt% reinforcement particles developed by a stir-casting. The molten composite was stirred at 600 rpm and melted at $900^{\circ}C{\pm}5^{\circ}C$. The $Mg_2Si$ particles were wrapped in an aluminum foil to keep them from burning when melting. The findings revealed that the microstructure of $Mg_2Si_{(p)}/AA332$ consists of ${\alpha}$-Al, binary eutectic ($Al+Mg_2Si$), $Mg_2Si$ particles, and intermetallic compound. The intermetallic compound was identified as Fe-rich and Cu-rich, formed as polygonal or blocky, Chinese script, needle-like, and polyhendrons or "skeleton like". The porosity of $Mg_2Si_{(p)}/AA332$ composite increased from 8-10% and the density decreased from 9-12% from as-cast. Mechanical properties such as hardness increased for over 42% from as-cast and the highest UTS, elongation, and maximum Q.I were achieved in the sample of 10% $Mg_2Si$. The study concludes that combined with AA332, the amount of 10 wt% of$Mg_2Si$ is a suitable reinforcement quantity with the combination ofAA332.

An interactive visualization of location-based reviews using word cloud and OpenStreetMap for tourism applications

Jieyu An,Wan Mohd Nazmee Wan Zainon,Wan Zainon 대한공간정보학회 2023 Spatial Information Research Vol.31 No.2

Massive volumes of online reviews have been generated as cities have grown and information has exploded. The majority of previous research on reviews has focused on debate, bias, and sentiment analysis. There is a lack of visual perception of the spatiotemporal pattern distribution in these reviews. This study attempts to bridge this gap and proposes an interactive visualization system combining Word cloud and OpenStreetMap to allow for visual exploration of spatial features, location mining, and decision making based on reviews. In this visualization, the original context of the reviews can be first explored through the designed interactive word cloud. Then, the geographical distribution information of the reviews will be presented and absorbed rapidly on the geographic map. Our system can guide users not only through the spatial features of online reviews but also efficiently retrieve their original review context by providing an interactive visualization and intuitive results. Thus, it is appropriate as an alternative method by transforming complex and abstract information into a simple and easy-to-understand visual language for online reviews understanding.

Life cycle assessment of diesel blending production

Che Hafizan,Zainura Zainon Noor,Norelyza Hussein,Noor Salehan Mohammad Sabli 대한환경공학회 2021 Environmental Engineering Research Vol.26 No.6

The global transportation sector is one of the significant fuel consumers and contributes directly to greenhouse gas emissions due to fossil fuel consumption. Diesel blending used to reduce the reliant of fossil diesel in the transportation sector. Thus to reduce the environmental burden of fuel usage, new diesel blending formulations consist of biofuels were developed. The objective of the study is to assess the environmental performance of the five new diesel blending formulations with the existing diesel blending formulation by using Life Cycle Assessment method. In midpoint categories, the conventional B5 diesel blending has shown the lowest environmental impact compared to other fuels in most categories except for marine eutrophication, natural land transformation, ozone depletion, and terrestrial ecotoxicity. In the weighting stage, B5 diesel blending scored the lowest value and followed by blending 5, thus indicating its potential as an alternative to the existing diesel blending formulation. The presence of butanol in the new diesel blending majorly affects the environmental impact for many impact categories.

Standardized Uptake Value from Semiquantitative Bone Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography/Computed Tomography in Normal Thoracic and Lumbar Vertebrae of Breast Cancer Patients

Rohani Mohd Fazrin Mohd,Yonan Siti Nurshahirah Mohd,Tagiling Nashrulhaq,Zainon Wan Mohd Nazlee Wan,Udin Yusri,Nawi Norazlina Mat 대한척추외과학회 2020 Asian Spine Journal Vol.14 No.5

Study Design: Retrospective study.Purpose: This study aims to semiquantitatively evaluate the standardized uptake value (SUV) of 99mTc-methylene diphosphonate (MDP) radionuclide tracer in the normal vertebrae of breast cancer patients using an integrated single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT)/computed tomography (CT) scanner.Overview of Literature: Molecular imaging techniques using gamma cameras and stand-alone SPECT have traditionally been utilized to evaluate metastatic bone diseases. However, these methods lack quantitative analysis capabilities, impeding accurate uptake characterization. Methods: A total of 30 randomly selected female breast cancer patients were enrolled in this study. The SUVmean and SUVmax values for 286 normal vertebrae at the thoracic and lumbar levels were calculated based on the patients’ body weight (BW), body surface area (BSA), and lean body mass (LBM). Additionally, 106 degenerative joint disease (DJD) lesions of the spine were also characterized, and both their BW SUVmean and SUVmax values were obtained. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was then performed to determine the cutoff value of SUV for differentiating DJD from normal vertebrae. Results: The mean±standard deviations for the SUVmean and SUVmax in the normal vertebrae displayed a relatively wide variability: BW=3.92±0.27 and 6.51±0.72, BSA=1.05±0.07 and 1.75±0.17, and LBM=2.70±0.19 and 4.50±0.44, respectively. Generally, the SUVmean had a lower coefficient of variation than the SUVmax. For DJD, the mean±standard deviation for the BW SUVmean and SUVmax was 5.26±3.24 and 7.50±4.34, respectively. Based on the ROC curve, no optimal cutoff value was found to differentiate DJD from normal vertebrae. Conclusions: In this study, the SUV of 99mTc-MDP was successfully determined using SPECT/CT. This research provides an approach that could potentially aid in the clinical quantification of radionuclide uptake in normal vertebrae for the management of breast cancer patients.
