Different divergence events for three pairs of PEBPs in Gossypium as implied by evolutionary analysis

        Youjun Lu,Wei Chen,Lanjie Zhao,Jinbo Yao,Yan Li,Weijun Yang,Ziyang Liu,Yongshan Zhang,Jie Sun 한국유전학회 2019 Genes & Genomics Vol.41 No.4

Introduction The phosphatidylethanolamine-binding protein (PEBP) gene family plays a crucial role in seed germination, reproductive transformation, and other important developmental processes in plants, but its distribution in Gossypium genomes or species, evolutionary properties, and the fates of multiple duplicated genes remain unclear. Objectives The primary objectives of this study were to elucidate the distribution and characteristics of PEBP genes in Gossypium, as well as the evolutionary pattern of duplication and deletion, and functional differentiation of PEBPs in plants. Methods Using the PEBP protein sequences in Arabidopsis thaliana as queries, blast alignment was carried out for the identification of PEBP genes in four sequenced cotton species. Using the primers designed according to the PEBP genome sequences, PEBP genes were cloned from 15 representative genomes of Gossypium genus, and the gene structure, CDS sequence, protein sequence and properties were predicted and phylogenetic analysis was performed. Taking PEBP proteins of grape as reference, grouping of orthologous gene, analysis of phylogeny and divergence of PEBPs in nine species were conducted to reconstruct the evolutionary pattern of PEBP genes in plants. Results We identified and cloned 160 PEBPs from 15 cotton species, and the phylogenetic analysis showed that the genes could be classified into the following three subfamilies: MFT-like, FT-like and TFL1-like. There were eight single orthologous group (OG) members in each diploid and 16 double OG members in each tetraploid. An analysis of the expression and selective pressure indicated that expression divergence and strong purification selection within the same OG presented in the PEBP gene family. Conclusion An evolutionary pattern of duplication and deletion of the PEBP family in the evolutionary history of Gossypium was suggested, and three pairs of genes resulted from different whole-genome duplication events.

Effect of cohesive powders on pressure fluctuation characteristics of a binary gas-solid fluidized bed

        Liping Wei,Youjun Lu,Jianbo Zhu,Guodong Jiang,Jun Hu,Haipeng Teng 한국화학공학회 2018 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.35 No.10

The effect of cohesive particles on the pressure fluctuations was experimentally investigated in a binary gassolid fluidized bed. The pressure fluctuation signals were measured by differential pressure sensors under conditions of various weight percentages of cohesive particles. The cohesive particles increased the fixed bed pressure drop per unit height and decreased the minimum fluidization velocity. The Wen & Yu equation well predicts the minimum fluidization velocity of the binary system. The addition of cohesive particles slightly decreased the bubble size in bubbling flow regime when the cohesive particles and the coarse particles mixed well, while the bubble size greatly decreased when the cohesive particles agglomerated on the bed surface. The time series of pressure fluctuations was analyzed by using the methods of time domain, frequency domain and wavelet transformation. The normalized standard deviation of pressure fluctuations decreased with increasing weight percentages of cohesive particles. A wide bandwidth frequency of 0 to 1Hz got narrower with a single peak around 0.6Hz with an increase in proportion of the cohesive particles. The meso-energy and micro-energy of pressure fluctuations were decreasing with increasing cohesive particles proportions, which indicated that adding cohesive particles could reduce the energy dissipation of bubble and particle fluctuations.

Effect of cohesive particle addition on bubbling characteristics of gas-solid fluidized bed: Meso-scale mechanism

        Wei Liping,Li Haoqi,Wu Changsong,Lu Youjun,Luo Kun 한국화학공학회 2023 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.40 No.6

Due to the small particle size and large specific surface area, the cohesive particles affect the flow characteristics in a gas-solid bubbling fluidized bed. They can easily produce agglomerated and smooth heterogeneous flow under the different cohesive particle addition amounts. The influence of the cohesive particle amount on the bubbling characteristics was experimentally investigated for two typical cases: bed surface agglomerate and well-dispersed with the bed. The images of bubble rise were recorded by digital camera and processed by binarization to track bubble motion and obtained the bubble motion characteristics. An energy minimization multiscale (EMMS) model based on binary particle bubble was expanded to the flow of cohesive particles to reveal the basic mechanism of influence of the cohesive particle. By comparing the results predicted by the model with the experimental data, it is found that the change rules of bubble size and bubble rising speed are similar, which proves the feasibility of the newly developed EMMS model. A study of the structure shows that the addition of cohesive particles increases the size of the bubbles and inhibits the collapse of the bubble due to the reduction of the gas-solid resistance coefficient.
