Glide Formation and Compensatory Lengthening in Korean Verbal Conjugation
Vol.3 No.-
Lee, Yongsung. 1997. Glide Formation and Compensatory Lengthening in Korean Verbal Congjugation. Studies in Phonetics, Phonology and Morphology 3, 223-246. This paper dea1s with glide formation in connection with compensatory lengthening in Korean verbal conjugation. Glide formation in Korean is obligatory in certain environments while optional in other environments. Sometimes the glide formation is accompanied by compensatory lengthening while in other times it is not. The complicated phenomena involved in glide formation, however, can be systematically explained with an Optimality Theoretic approach. This paper makes use of two crucial constraints Onset and NoComplex and their interaction with syllable wellformedness constraints such as Parse-? and Fill. With the assumption that the two constraints Onset and NoComplex are unordered in their ranks, the obligatory and the optional nature of glide formation are neatly captured. Further it is seen that the compensatory lengthening found in initial syllables comes from the interaction of syllable wellformedness constraints and alignment requirement of a heavy or long syllable. This study is intended to investigate the relationship between the rebound value of P type schmidt hammer and compressive strength at early age(until lday), synthesizing the studies on estimation of compressive strength by P type schmidt hammerby this time for confirming compressive strength of 5MPa at which side form can be removed. Regression formula between rebound value of P type schmidt hammer and compressive strength is shown as K= 0.00131 e2.582ln(X) and correlativity is favorable (coefficient of correlation 0.895). After analyzing the regression line as confidence coeffient(0.05) by estimate analysis, the allowance limit of y versus x is obtained. Rebound value of P type schmidt hammer, which compressive strength is more than 5MPa, shows 29, based on the lower limit of allowance limit. Therefore, if rebound value of P type schmidt hammer is more than 29, it is thought that compressive strength of concrete exceeds 5MPa under the condition of normal ready mixed concrete.
Vol.40 No.1
This paper is a study of how North Korean defectors should form ethical subjectivity as members of South Korean society. To this end, this paper was helped by the ideas that appeared in the political philosopher Hannah Arendt’s The Life of the Mind. Based on Arendt’s idea, I suggest ‘thinking as a Legal-Subject’, ‘relying as a Moral-Subject’, and ‘judging as a Human-Subject’. And as a conclusion, I would like to propose the universalism of ‘One Another-Subjectivity’ as an ethical subject of not only North Korean defectors but also the South Korean people. The change and strengthening of the identity of the South and the North through “subject to each other” will lead to unification of the mind, and will accelerate the unification of the economy, culture and politics.
Constraint combinations and phonological opacity
Vol.20 No.2
This paper presents an extensive explanation to opacity, which represents one of the most recalcitrant problems in Optimality theory. The research history of opacity in Optimality theory is that of gradual departure from its original proposal. The recent proposal of OT-CC by McCarthy virtually gives up the idea of parallelism and argues for the importance of derivational history. This paper, however, reviews the opacity problems and offers an alternative explanation without abandoning parallelism. This paper makes use of constraint combinations to explain both underapplication opacity and overapplication opacity. It cites various papers to show that the underapplication opacity is the work of disjunctively combined complex constraint. Based on such constraint combinations, it further argues that the overapplication opacity is also the work of a combined constraint. The complex constraint with implicational combination and its interaction with relevant constraints can explain the overapplication opacity. As such, this paper shows that we can deal with opacity issues in Optimality without introducing derivational history or constraints that do not fall into either markedness or faithfulness constraint family.
Dependence of thermal properties on the CaO/MgO ratio of CaO-MgO-SiO2-(Li2O) glass-ceramics
2013 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.14 No.2
The crystallization behavior and thermal properties of diopside-based glass ceramics fabricated from a CaO–MgO–SiO2-(Li2O) glass system were studied as functions of the CaO/MgO ratio. Crystalline diopside was identified as the main phase in all specimens with CaO/MgO ratios of 0.4 ~ 2.3. Small amounts of β-wollastonite and forsterite were generated in specimens of higher and lower ratios of CaO/MgO compared to the specimen of CaO/MgO = 1, respectively. The thermal conductivity increased with increasing major peak intensity of diopside. The thermal conductivities of the glass ceramics of CaO/MgO = 2.3 and 0.4 were 34% and 14% lower, respectively, in comparison with the value for the CaO/MgO = 1. The chemical resistance of the glass-ceramics to HF acid solution increased with decreasing CaO/MgO ratio due to the formation of forsterite phase. The diopside-based glass-ceramics of CaO/MgO ratio = 0.7 sintered at 823o C/2 hrs in the CaO-MgO-SiO2-(Li2O) system had a thermal conductivity of 3.3 W/mK, as high as in pure diopside, and much higher chemical durability than the pure diopside glass-ceramics. Thus, the diopside-based glass-ceramics containing a small amount of forsterite showed high feasibility for application to LED packaging materials through LTCC processing.
