Lysobacter capsici YS1215 isolated from soil previously showed nematicidal potential for biological control of the root-knot nematode. In this study, lactic acid, a nematicidal compound, was isolated from culture filtrate of YS1215, and its ovicidal activity was investigated. Purification and identification of lactic acid were performed by a series of column chromatographies and identified by 1H and 13C NMR spectra and GC-MS analysis. Our results showed that bacterial culture filtrate containing lactic acid significantly inhibited egg hatching. The lowest egg hatch rate (5.9%) was found at a high concentration (25 μl/ml) of lactic acid at 5 days after incubation, followed by 20 (15.2%), 15 (23.7%), 10 (29.8%), and 5 (36.4%) μl/ml, while egg hatching in the control (sterile distilled water) was 44.5%. This is the first report of lactic acid as an ovicidal compound, and it may be considered as an alternative of chemical pesticide against root-knot nematodes.

This paper briefly introduce principal characteristics and control ideas, applications of the controller.

<P>The optimal design of electric machines requires a significant amount of computation time, since the design is usually performed based on finite-element analysis (FEA) for better accuracy. For this reason, the development of an optimization algorithm is regarded as a prerequisite to reduce the number of objective function call, which is directly related to computation time. The local search algorithm does not guarantee that the global optimum solution can be searched effectively. Therefore, in this paper, we introduce the novel optimization method, search region management (SRM), to improve the efficiency of the local search algorithm. SRM uses a guided random bit generation based on Gray code for the region selection when the local search iterates the optimum search process for a multi-start. In addition, the SRM saves and manages the information of previous searched points to prevent overlapping calculation and to increase the effectiveness of the local search during every iteration process. To clarify the effectiveness of the proposed method for electric machine design, it is applied to the optimal design of brushless dc motor coupled with FEA minimizing torque ripple.</P>

The mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway is upregulated in the pathogenesis of many cancers, including colorectal cancer (CRC). DEPTOR is an mTOR inhibitor whose expression is negatively regulated by mTOR. However, the role of DEPTOR in the development of CRC is not known. The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of DEPTOR and mTORC1 activity (P-S6) in a subset of CRC patients and determine their relation to tumor differentiation, invasion, nodal metastasis and disease-free survival. Here, Immunohistochemical expression of P-S6 (S235/236) and DEPTOR were evaluated in 1.5 mm tumor cores from 90 CRC patients and in 90 samples of adjacent normal mucosa by tissue microarray. The expression of P-S6 (S235/236) was upregulated in CRC, with the positive rate of P-S6 (S235/236) in CRC (63.3%) significantly higher than that in control tissues (36.7%, 30%) (p<0.05). P-S6 (S235/236) also correlated with high tumor histologic grade (p=0.002), and positive nodal metastasis (p=0.002). In contrast, the expression level of DEPTOR was correlated with low tumor histological grade (p=0.006), and negative nodal metastasis (p=0.001). Interestingly, P-S6 (S235/236) expression showed a significant negative association with the expression of DEPTOR in CRC (p=0.011, R= -0.279). However, upregulation of P-S6 (S235/236) (p=0.693) and downregulation of DEPTOR (p=0.331) in CRC were not significantly associated with overall survival. Thus, we conclude that expression of DEPTOR negatively correlates with mTORC1 activity and tumor progression in CRC. DEPTOR is a potential marker for prognostic evaluation and a target for the treatment of CRC.

<P>A simply and facilely synthesized MoO<SUB>3</SUB> solution was developed to fabricate charge injection layers for improving the charge-injection properties in p-type organic field-effect transistors (OFETs). By dissolving MoO<SUB>3</SUB> powder in ammonium (NH<SUB>3</SUB>) solvent under an air atmosphere, an intermediate ammonium molybdate ((NH<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>MoO<SUB>4</SUB>) precursor is made stable, transparent and spin-coated to form the MoO<SUB>3</SUB> interfacial layers, the thickness and morphology of which can be well-controlled. When the MoO<SUB>3</SUB> layer was applied to OFETs with a cost-effective molybdenum (Mo) electrode, the field-effect mobility (<I>μ</I><SUB>FET</SUB>) was significantly improved to 0.17 or 1.85 cm<SUP>2</SUP> V<SUP>−1</SUP>s<SUP>−1</SUP> for polymer semiconductors, regioregular poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) or 3,6-bis-(5bromo-thiophen-2-yl)-<I>N</I>,<I>N</I>′-bis(2-octyl-1-dodecyl)-1,4-dioxo-pyrrolo[3,4-<I>c</I>]pyrrole (DPPT-TT), respectively. Device analysis indicates that the MoO<SUB>3</SUB>-deposited Mo contact exhibits a contact resistance <I>R</I><SUB>C</SUB> of 1.2 MΩ cm comparable to that in a device with the noble Au electrode. Kelvin-probe measurements show that the work function of the Mo electrode did not exhibit a dependence on the thickness of MoO<SUB>3</SUB> film.
