        Since the academic year of 1994, the Scholatic Ability Test(abbr. S.A.T) was given for students who wanted to get adimssions from universities and colleges in Korea. This test has revolutionized the pattern of teaching and learning mathematics in most highschool classrooms. In this paper, we will show a feature of S.A.T. and analyze mathematics problems of 1997's S.A.T.

      • Phanerochaete chrysosporium의 액체 배양 및 Lignin Peroxidase 생산

        This study characterizes the growth of white rot fungi Phanerochaete chrysosporium IFO 31249 and lignin peroxidase(LiP) activity in different submerged culture media. P. chrysosporium was grown in the form of pellet of various sizes from a spore inoculum under shaking liquid culture condition. While the growth of mycelia was higher under the nitrogen-sufficient culture than under the nitrogen-limited culture, ligninase activity was relatively lower. The lignin peroxidase appeared in nitrogen-limited culture and was suppressed by excess nitrogen. High level(40U/l) of lignin peroxidase activity was obtained in the growth medium containing 1.5mM veratryl alcohol, a secondary metabolite of P. chrysosporium. Lignin peroxidase production was not observed under conditions of nitrogen sufficiency or in balanced media, suggesting that control parameters could increase the activity by manipulating the secondary metabolism.

        Objectives : Pneumoconisis and noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) have been reported as main occupational diseases by the Special Health Examination. The Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance has reported various work-related diseases, however, these two diseases occupied almost a half of compensated cases. Therefore, it was not well known about the status of occupational diseases other than pneumoconiosis, NIHL, and cardio-cerebrovascular accident (CVA). This study was conducted to analyze claimed cases as an occupational disease, that was requested to the Korea Industrial Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA). Methods : The local office of the Korea Labor Welfare Corporation (KLWC) has asked the KOSHA for confirmation of claimed cases as an occupational disease. We analyzed 379 cases requested from KLWC, the Ministry of Labor, employers, unions and occupational health agencies from 1992 to 1999. Results : Male was 80.7 % of the requested cases. Their mean age was 42 years old and 75.5 % of them were more than 35 years old. The requested cases were increased rapidly from 25 cases in 1992 to 108 cases in 1999 and the accept rate was 50.7 %. The majority of requested cases were respiratory diseases(22.4%), cancers(18.5%), Neuropsychiatric problems(14.5%), and musculoskeletal problems(13.5%). The accept rate was high in reproductive, respiratory, musculoskeletal and digestive disorders and low in neuropsychiatric, renal and otologic problems and occupational cancers. 73.6% of them were caused by chemical agents, especially 28.5 % were by organic solvents. 67% of them were clinically confirmed at university hospitals. A half of the cases were from KyongIn area, even the request came from the whole country. Conclusions : A claim was common in workers whose age was over 35 years old and exposure history was over 10 years. The respiratory diseases and neuropsychiatric disorders were still main problems in occupational health and occupational cancers was increasing even though its accept rate was not high yet.

        Holographic polymer-dispersed liquid crystals using vinyloxytrimethylsilane

        <P>BACKGROUND: To reduce the driving voltage of transmission holographic polymer-dispersed liquid crystals (HPDLCs), the polymer interface was modified by incorporating various amounts of vinyloxytrimethylsilane (VOTMS) monomer to the conventional grating formulation based on polyurethane acrylate (PUA).</P><P>RESULTS: With the addition of increasing amounts of VOTMS, the contact angle of the film and the droplet size of the liquid crystal (LC) monotonically increased, implying that the VOTMS segments of the polymer are preferentially exposed to the interfaces and provide greater immiscibility with LC molecules. The operating voltage monotonically decreased with increasing VOTMS content with a minimum switching voltage of about 15 V with a response time of about 10 ms. However, in the presence of VOTMS, the droplets coalesced and caused random scattering, thus lowering the off-state diffraction efficiency below that of virgin PUA.</P><P>CONCLUSION: It was found that VOTMS was essential to drive the film. The VOTMS segments of the polymer are preferentially exposed to the polymer/LC interfaces and decrease the surface anchoring strength and also influence the orientation of LC droplets. Also, lower molecular weight bifunctional polypropylene glycol generally gave greater diffraction efficiency, confirming that grating formation is favoured with higher crosslink density due to the greater polymer/LC phase separation.         Combination of macrophage inflammatory protein 1 alpha with existing therapies to enhance the antitumor effects on murine hepatoma

        <P>Existing therapies such as irradiation or sorafenib have limited success in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) due to tumor recurrence and metastasis. Therefore, combination with other therapeutics is often considered. Macrophage inflammatory protein-1 alpha (MIP-1α) is a member of a family of chemoattractant cytokines that can induce the migration of monocytes, which in turn can play a role in fighting tumors. This study investigated whether intravenous injection of MIP-1α in conjunction with irradiation or sorafenib could enhance the antitumor effects on murine hepatoma. An HCa-I tumor was grown on the right thigh of each C3H/HeN mouse. Mice were then treated with 10 Gy of irradiation, sorafenib, or a combination of MIP-1α with either irradiation or sorafenib, and antitumor and antimetastatic effects were then investigated. To understand the mechanisms, changes in the level of immunological markers were also evaluated. Combination treatment of MIP-1α with irradiation or sorafenib resulted in a significant enhancement of antitumor effects, prevention of lung metastasis and increase in host survival. This was achieved by significantly increasing the levels of the immunological markers: Cluster Differentiation (CD) 8, CD107A and CD11C. We conclude that a combination treatment of MIP-1α with irradiation or sorafenib would be a useful strategy for management of hepatoma.</P>

        크레인 말뚝식 계류시설의 지진시 동적거동 특성 연구

        이 논문의 목적은 말뚝식 계류시설의 지반-말뚝 및 잔교-크레인의 동적거동 특성을 파악하여 현행 응답스펙트럼 해석법의 적용성에 대해 연구하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 다양한 지반종류, 말뚝-지반 모델링과 구조물 고유주기 등을 설계변수로 Abaqus를 활용한 시간이력해석을 수행하고, 잔교-크레인의 다양한 연결조건과 구조물 고유주기 등을 변수로 시간이력해석을 수행하여 응답스펙트럼 해석결과와 비교 분석하였다. 연구 결과 말뚝식 계류시설의 지반-말뚝 및 잔교-크레인 동적거동 특성을 고려할 경우 현행 응답스펙트럼 해석법에 문제가 있으며 개선이 필요하다는 것을 확인하였다. The purpose of this paper is to study of the applicability of the current response spectrum analysis method by grasping the dynamic behavior characteristics of soil-pile and pier-crane in pile mooring facilities. To this end, time history analysis was performed using Abaqus as a design variable for various soil types, pile-ground modeling, and structure specific cycles. The results were compared with the analysis results of the response spectrum. Subsequently, a problem has been found in the current response spectrum analysis and the improvements are needed when considering the dynamic behavior of the ground-pile and pier-crane of the pile mooring facility.

        Laboratory Performance Evaluation of Recycled Asphalt Binders with Differing Rejuvenators

        PURPOSES: The objective of this study is to investigate the properties of recycled asphalt binders with five different rejuvenators, in order to evaluate the applicability of the recycled asphalt binders compared with the original asphalt binder. METHODS: In order to simulate recycled asphalt binders, fresh asphalt binders are aged by various Superpave aging procedures, such as the rolling thin-film oven (RTFO) and the pressure aging vessel (PAV). Then, selected rejuvenators are added to the aged asphalt binders in the amount of 5%, 10%, and 15%. The asphalt binder properties are evaluated by the dynamic shear rheometer (DSR), the rotational viscometer (RV), and the bending beam rheometer (BBR). In this study, AP-5 (penetration grade 60-80, PG 64-16) asphalt binder is used. A total of five types of rejuvenators are employed. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS : When considering aged asphalt without a new asphalt binder, it seems that the percentage of rejuvenator used in Korea is a bit too low, and that it fails to possess the characteristics of the original binder. From the current practice of evaluating the properties of recycled binder based on penetration ratio only, the amount of rejuvenator required is similar for the long-term-aged binder, but is excessive for the longest-term aged binder, causing deterioration of workability and stiffness of the recycled binder.

        Since the COVID-19 epidemic, the response of educational facilities regarding infectious diseases has been through software quarantine guidelines that involved installing partitions and keeping distance. However, this is a temporary prevention method, and hardware supplementation is needed with consideration of the placement of space or movement path of infectious diseases that could occur in the future. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the infectious disease guidelines of educational facilities that could occur even afterwards, and derive implications through surveys and interviews with related officials and experts. Reports and documents from the Ministry of Education and the provincial education office related to infection prevention management and response manuals were analyzed. This study was divided into institutional and spatial aspects that entailed the prevention of infectious diseases related to school facilities after 2019. Opinions were collected through a survey conducted on operators of these educational facility guidelines and implications were derived from status analysis based upon interviews and surveys taken from architectural design experts. Finally, the direction for improving these guidelines for preventative COVID-19 measures in school facilities was suggested from the responses of school operators and architectural experts.
