      • The Great Gatsby의 悲劇的 構造

        梁永洙 제주대학교 1984 논문집 Vol.18 No.1

Critics of F.S. Fitzgerald tend to agree that The Great Gatsby is a literary production of the Jazz Age, i.e. America's earlier nineteen-twenties, or the artistic representation of a depraved deviant of the American dream. This essay is, however, trying to view this novel as an embodiment of the universal kind of human illusion and disillusion, admitting that this novel was originally a faithful expression of the spirit of an age. The essence of the idealistic vision whose tragedy Gatsby is enacting is that it is based on a past and a future that are not substantial or influential, and helpless in the present that is. In Gatsby's tragedy are involved many characters who are standing out in sharp contrast to him. Nick, the narrator of this novel, is realistic and moralistic, and so he tries to persuade Gatsby to give up his long cherished one-sided love to Daisy, but his scrupulous attitude provides no help in preventing Gatsby's dectruction. Daisy is the object of Gatsby's tenacious love, but she is quite devoid of the capacity of loving, or being loved by, somebody else, and so her response to his whole-hearted affection is stolid and inhumane. She and her husband Tom lead Gatsby to be shot by Wilson, even though they know Daisy herself is the actual culprit of the killing of Myrtle who is Wilson's wife and Tom's mistress as well. Gatsby's attachment to his past dream is so strong as to deprive him of reasonable judgement of his present situation.

      • G.Eliot의 生涯와 作品에 나타난 共感的 휴머니즘의 道德觀

        梁永洙 제주대학교 1984 논문집 Vol.17 No.1

        G. Eliot can be said to be a humanitarian novelist, and her moralism of humanity is characterized by the emphasis on sympathetic ties with other people. Her thought of morality is far off from the Christian code of morality. She did not believe in the Christianity's claim to be the beginning of human morality, and she maintained that the origin of men's morality is nothing but humanity itself. But she didn't disparage the Christian, or religious, attitude on moral behavior and she was quite on guard against the radical uheaval in thoughts as well as in institutions. On the contrary, she paid the fullest respect to the people's endeavour to regulate and chasten their behaviors by means of various forms of religion in the human history. The keypoint in her revolutionary view of morality is not in that she disagreed with the Christian creeds, but in that the moral order was considered not to be dependent for its origins upon the Christianity. In G. Eliot, the chief agent of morality is human feeling-the sympathetic feeling which comes from men's experiences of suffering and social interaction. Maggie, the heroine of The Mill on the Floss, suffers from the tragical flaws which, not without the lofty ideals, put her into endless conflicts with surrounding characters. But such sufferings as Maggie is experiencing are the very basis on which the true sympathetic morality is based. After her long discord with Tom, her brother, she comes to understand and tolerate his bigotry as against her own egotism. Maggie's own isolated experience in the past enables her to be uncommonly tender-minded to Philip's crippled body and his alienated mind. Faithful to her past love with Philip and to her strong community-consciousness towards her cousin Lucy, Maggie has to refrain from pleasure-seeking love affairs with Stephen. The last scene of this novel, in which Maggie and Tom are dying in an embrace never to be parted, symbolizes G. Eliot's moralism of sympathetic humanity after Ieng suffering. But, the fact that their disagreements are settled only by means of death can be interpreted to signify that her optimistic view on human morality of sympathy is obviously limited.

      • Thomas Wolfe의 You Can't Go Home Again에 나타난 美國人의 性格

        梁永洙 제주대학교 1983 논문집 Vol.16 No.1

T.Wolfe tried to embody American spirit in his last novel, You Can't Go Home Again, and George Webber, the hero of it, was the other self of T.Wolfe. G.Webber is showing many of American characteristics. As American people were so brave as to give up the time-honored European establishinents, so G.Webber had the courage to sever himself from his homeland and the people there by disclosing the dehumanizing phenomena arising from the economic boom of his longcherished homeland. Both made efforts to outgrow their past selves, hoping to enjoy richer life in the future. G.Webber's self-enlarging character gets rooted in the attitude that all things on the earth are destined to change and men can adapt themselves to the changes only by incessant renovations of themselves. And so, Webber could quit his beloved Esther with equanimity, now that he came to realize that she belonged to the high circles which tend to overlook the painful reality of human being and society. His fondness for traveling also has its origin in his self-renewing endeavour, and his experiences in Germany under the rule of the Nazis brought to him the deep-rooted cruelty in the human mind. Consequently, he resolved to stop his friendship with his editor, Foxhall, because the philosophical resignation of the latter could not be in harmony with his determined progressiveness. He believed in historical progress, while the hard-minded fatalist thought that human nature and inclination to crime cannot be changed in spite of everlasting reformation. This separation also shows that Webber is willing to renounce his familiar possessions in hoping for richer and better ones.

응급실 내원환자에 대한 병원전 응급체계와 후송체계에 대한 조사

        김영식,황성오,임경수,윤양구 大韓應急醫學會 1992 대한응급의학회지 Vol.3 No.1

A prospective research of 1,573 patients who visited emergency room was completed by the emergency physician of Wonju College of Medicine of Yonsei University, and Youngdong Hospital. This prospective study demonstrate the problems of prehospital emergency care and transfer system of the emergency patient. Among 1,573 patients, 86.9% were admitted to the Emergency room by the non-emergency vehicle such as taxi and bus, and only 13.1% was admitted via ambulance. At the situation of emergency, the most of patients and patient`s families could not call for the help to emergency telemetry center because only 3.1% among total patients knew the emergency call number(Tel. No: 129). Because the emergency delivery system between emergency centers from Level. Ⅰ, Ⅱ to Level Ⅲ was not established yet, only 492 patients(31.3%) were transferred from Level Ⅰ, Ⅱ emergency room to our emergency room to our emergency center but 1081 patients(68.7%) were admitted directly to Level Ⅲ emergency center from emergency fields. Among 1,081 patients who visited Level Ⅲ emergency center directly, only 240 patients(23%) were admitted for further treatment, but in transferred cases(492 patients), 271 patients(55%) were admitted. Especially in the injured patients, severely injured patients(ISS 16) occupied only 6% among 441 patients who visited directly, but it occupied 21% among 150patients who were transferrd from local community hospital. This result means that many non-urgent patients visited Level Ⅲ emergency centers without the previous visiting of Level ⅠⅡ emergency room. This study reveals that EMSS(Emergency Medical Services System) including the telemetry systems must be organized in short-time to reduce the mortality and morbidity of emergency patients. First, the educations about the emergency call system and First Aids to the people must be stsryed initially through the school and mass-media such as television and radio network. Second, emergency delivery system between Level Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ emergency center must be organized for the effective and rapid transportaion of acute ill patients.

      • 肋膜疾患의 臨床的 考察 : 非特異性肋膜?出에 關한 診斷的 考察 1.Diagnostic Studies on Idiopathi Pleural Effusions

        金洋一,李英玉,金東秀,李學重 中央醫學社 1976 中央醫學 Vol.30 No.2

Twenty-three patients with pleural effusion of unknown etiology were selected because by means of radiological and cytologic examination, smear of the sputum and pleural fluids for tubercle bacilli and eggs of the lung fluke had failed to provide a diagnosis, from September, 1974 to October, 1975 at the Department of internal Medicine, National Medical Center in Korea. Needle biopsy of the pleura using Vim-Silverman needle, culture of the sputum and pleural fluids for tubercle bacilli, red blood cell, lymphocyte, monocyte and mesothelial cell counts in the pleural fluids, and measurement of the pleural fluid glucose and pH levels were done to provide definite or suspected diagnosis. The results were as follows: 1) neeedle biopsies were done on 23 patients and 11 of these showed tuberculous findings, 2 of these showed lymphoma and the remaining 10 showed nonspecific chronic inflammation (43.5%). In one patient of the nonspecific group, an open pleural biopsy which showed paragonimiasis. 2) culture of the pleural fluid was positive for tubercle bacilli in only 2 of the tuberculous group and 1 of the nonspecific group. 3) Used in conjunction with pleural fluid red blood cell, lymphocyte, monocyte, rresothelial cell counts and glucose, pH levels, most provable tuberculous etiology could be established in 6 of 8 nonspecific group, and remaining 2 were as idiopathic pleural effusion. There was no significant statistical difference in the laboratory

      • 심실중격결손증-치험 1예-

        조광현,우종수,황윤호,이양행,박철호,김종성,김철호,이경순,조영일,박태인 인제대학교 1985 仁濟醫學 Vol.6 No.4

A successful treatment of infants and children with congenital heart defects depends upon several factors: diagnosis must be accurate, the operative technique, including techniques of perfusion and myocardial preservation, must be suited to the needs of patients and intensive cares, including accurate anesthesia, must be applied through all stages of investigation and treatment, i.e. before, during and after the operation. Recently we performed a open heart surgery successfully for a six-years old girl who had suffered from frequent upper respiratory tract infection and mild to moderate exertional dyspnea with congenital heart defects (ventricular septal defect, Kirklin type II, with patent foramen ovale). The operation and postoperative course were very smooth. And now we report this with review of literatures.

Production of L-Theanine Using Escherichia coli Whole-Cell Overexpressing γ-Glutamylmethylamide Synthetase with Baker’s Yeast

        ( Soo-yeon Yang ),( Yeong-hoon Han ),( Ye-lim Park ),( Jun-young Park ),( So-young No ),( Daham Jeong ),( Saerom Park ),( Hyung Yeon Park ),( Wooseong Kim ),( Seung-oh Seo ),( Yung-hun Yang ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2020 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.30 No.5

L-Theanine, found in green tea leaves has been shown to positively affect immunity and relaxation in humans. There have been many attempts to produce L-theanine through enzymatic synthesis to overcome the limitations of traditional methods. Among the many genes coding for enzymes in the L-theanine biosynthesis, glutamylmethylamide synthetase (GMAS) exhibits the greatest possibility of producing large amounts of production. Thus, GMAS from Methylovorus mays No. 9 was overexpressed in several strains including vectors with different copy numbers. BW25113(DE3) cells containing the pET24ma::gmas was selected for strains. The optimal temperature, pH, and metal ion concentration were 50℃, 7, and 5 mM MnCl2, respectively. Additionally, ATP was found to be an important factor for producing high concentration of L-theanine so several strains were tested during the reaction for ATP regeneration. Baker’s yeast was found to decrease the demand for ATP most effectively. Addition of potassium phosphate source was demonstrated by producing 4-fold higher L-theanine. To enhance the conversion yield, GMAS was additionally overexpressed in the system. A maximum of 198 mM L-theanine was produced with 16.5 mmol/l/h productivity. The whole-cell reaction involving GMAS has greatest potential for scale-up production of L-theanine.
