Authentication of an Endangered Herb Changium smyrnioides from Different Producing Areas Based on rDNA ITS Sequences and Allele- Specific PCR

        Xiaoqin Sun,Yueyu Hang,Yanglian Wei,Minjian Qin,Qiaosheng Guo,Jianlin Guo,Yifeng Zhou 대한약학회 2012 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.35 No.4

The rDNA ITS region of 18 samples of Changium smyrnioides from 7 areas and of 2 samples of Chuanminshen violaceum were sequenced and analyzed. The amplified ITS region of the samples, including a partial sequence of ITS1 and complete sequences of 5.8S and ITS2, had a total length of 555 bp. After complete alignment, there were 49 variable sites, of which 45 were informative, when gaps were treated as missing data. Samples of C. smyrnioides from different locations could be identified exactly based on the variable sites. The maximum parsimony (MP) and neighbor joining (NJ) tree constructed from the ITS sequences based on Kumar’s two-parameter model showed that the genetic distances of the C. smyrnioides samples from different locations were not always related to their geographical distances. A specific primer set for Allele-specific PCR authentication of C. violaceum from Jurong of Jiangsu was designed based on the SNP in the ITS sequence alignment. C. violaceum from the major genuine producing area in Jurong of Jiangsu could be identified exactly and quickly by Allele-specific PCR.

      • Interplay Between Optical Bianisotropy and Magnetism in Plasmonic Metamolecules

        Sun, Liuyang,Ma, Tzuhsuan,Yang, Seung-Cheol,Kim, Dong-Kwan,Lee, Gaehang,Shi, Jinwei,Martinez, Irving,Yi, Gi-Ra,Shvets, Gennady,Li, Xiaoqin American Chemical Society 2016 Nano letters Vol.16 No.7

<P>The smallness of natural molecules and atoms with respect to the wavelength of light imposes severe limits on the nature of their optical response. For example, the well-known argument of Landau and Lifshitz and its recent extensions that include chiral molecules show that the electric dipole response dominates over the magneto-electric (bianisotropic) and an even smaller magnetic dipole optical response for all natural materials. Here, we experimentally demonstrate that both these responses can be greatly enhanced in plasmonic nanoclusters. Using atomic force microscopy nanomanipulation technique, we assemble a plasmonic metamolecule that is designed for strong and simultaneous optical magnetic and magneto-electric excitation. Angle-dependent scattering spectroscopy is used to disentangle the two responses and to demonstrate that their constructive/destructive interplay causes strong directional scattering asymmetry. This asymmetry is used to extract both magneto-electric and magnetic dipole responses and to demonstrate their enhancement in comparison to ordinary atomistic materials.</P>

Fatty Acid-Binding Protein 4 in Patients with and without Diabetic Retinopathy

        Ping Huang,Xiaoqin Zhao,Yi Sun,Xinlei Wang,Rong Ouyang,Yanqiu Jiang,Xiaoquan Zhang,Renyue Hu,Zhuqi Tang,Yunjuan Gu 대한당뇨병학회 2022 Diabetes and Metabolism Journal Vol.46 No.4

Background: Fatty acid-binding protein 4 (FABP4) has been demonstrated to be a predictor of early diabetic nephropathy. However, little is known about the relationship between FABP4 and diabetic retinopathy (DR). This study explored the value of FABP4 as a biomarker of DR in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).Methods: A total of 238 subjects were enrolled, including 20 healthy controls and 218 T2DM patients. Serum FABP4 levels were measured using a sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The grade of DR was determined using fundus fluorescence angiography. Based on the international classification of DR, all T2DM patients were classified into the following three subgroups: non-DR group, non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR) group, and proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) group. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were employed to assess the correlation between FABP4 levels and DR severity. Results: FABP4 correlated positively with DR severity (<i>r</i>=0.225, <i>P</i>=0.001). Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was used to assess the diagnostic potential of FABP4 in identifying DR, with an area under the curve of 0.624 (37% sensitivity, 83.6% specificity) and an optimum cut-off value of 76.4 μg/L. Multivariate logistic regression model including FABP4 as a categorized binary variable using the cut-off value of 76.4 μg/L showed that the concentration of FABP4 above the cut-off value increased the risk of NPDR (odds ratio [OR], 3.231; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.574 to 6.632; <i>P</i>=0.001) and PDR (OR, 3.689; 95% CI, 1.306 to 10.424; <i>P</i>=0.014).Conclusion: FABP4 may be used as a serum biomarker for the diagnosis of DR.

Toward Understanding the Adsorption And Inhibition Mechanism of Cu‑MBTA Passivation Film on Copper Surface: A Combined Experimental and DFT Investigation

        Mengrui Liu,Da Yin,Baimei Tan,Fan Yang,Xiaoqin Sun,Pengcheng Gao,Shihao Zhang,Yazhen Wang 대한금속·재료학회 2021 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.17 No.1

The adsorption and passivation reactions of 5-methyl benzotriazole (MBTA) with different copper samples (as received, citricacid treated and citric acid and KIO4treated) were studied. The experiments were characterized by contact angle measurement, potentiodynamic polarization curve, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results showed that the adsorption behavior of MBTA on different treated surfaces was different and MBTA was preferentiallyadsorbed on the surface of citric acid treated copper. Based on the density functional theory, quantum chemicaldescriptors such as the frontier molecular orbital energies EHOMO,ELUMOand the energy gap between them, molecularelectrostatic potential, and Fukui function had been calculated and discussed. The adsorption mechanism of MBTA andcopper surface was further revealed, which had positive significance for the corrosion inhibition of copper surface in copperinterconnection CMP.
