Adaptive Controller Design for a Synchronous Generator with Unknown Perturbation in Mechanical Power
Jiao Xiaohong,Sun Yuanzhang,Shen Tielong Institute of Control 2005 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.3 No.S
Transient stabilization with voltage regulation is investigated for a synchronous generator when the mechanical power is perturbed to any unknown value within its physical bounds so that the operating point of the system shifts to an unknown point. An adaptive excitation controller is designed based on the backstepping method with tuning functions. It will be shown that the adaptive control law proposed can achieve the convergence of the system states to the new equilibrium point in correspondence with the real value of the unknown mechanical power and the regulation of the terminal voltage to the required value. Simulation results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller for the transient stabilization and voltage regulation.

In view of the case that time-delay arises in the output measurements and the states are not all measurable in practical engineering control, the robust output feedback stabilization problem is investigated for a class of nonlinear time-delay systems in the presence of delayed output measurement. First, based on Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional stability theory, a sufficient condition is given under which the whole system consisting of the original system and the feedback controller with the observer is robust asymptotically stable at the equilibrium, moreover, the feedback gain and the observer gain can be obtained. And then, by employing the result presented, the robust stabilization problem is solved for the hydraulic automatic gauge control (HAGC) system in a cold strip rolling mill. It is shown under the case that the instrumentation used only is the thickness meter, there exists a delay-independent dynamic output feedback robust controller such that the roll gap, the depress force of the hydraulic cylinder and the strip exit thickness all can be regulated to their desired set values regardless of the nonlinearity and uncertainty in the dynamic descriptions of the system as well as the output time-delay in the measurement. Finally, the simulation results are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

Due to the high exothermic characteristic of NiAl during the reaction synthesis process from Ni–Al elemental powders, theNiAl intermetallic melts frequently, and the specimens are difficult to maintain their original shape, which leads to the inhomogeneityof the pore size and morphology. To tackle this problem, porous NiAl intermetallic monolith with controllableshape and pore structure was prepared through thermal explosion (TE) using NaCl as space holder. The TE behavior wasrecorded, and the effect of the volume fraction of NaCl on the phase composition, macroscopic feature, pore morphologyand open porosity were investigated. The results showed that NiAl was the main phase in the products, and the specimenwas free from cracking or deforming when NaCl content reached 30 vol%. The interconnected channel and pore windowswere formed, and the open porosity was improved greatly to 63% by adding 50 vol% NaCl. The leachable space holder routeprovides a simple way to control the shape, pore structure and open porosity of the synthesized porous NiAl intermetallic.
