Feature Based Multi-Resolution Registration of Blurred Images for Image Mosaic
Fang, Xianyong,Luo, Bin,He, Biao,Wu, Hao Society for Computational Design and Engineering 2009 International Journal of CAD/CAM Vol.9 No.1
Existing methods for the registration of blurred images are efficient for the artificially blurred images or a planar registration, but not suitable for the naturally blurred images existing in the real image mosaic process. In this paper, we attempt to resolve this problem and propose a method for a distortion-free stitching of naturally blurred images for image mosaic. It adopts a multi-resolution and robust feature based inter-layer mosaic together. In each layer, Harris corner detector is chosen to effectively detect features and RANSAC is used to find reliable matches for further calibration as well as an initial homography as the initial motion of next layer. Simplex and subspace trust region methods are used consequently to estimate the stable focal length and rotation matrix through the transformation property of feature matches. In order to stitch multiple images together, an iterative registration strategy is also adopted to estimate the focal length of each image. Experimental results demonstrate the performance of the proposed method.

This paper further studies the stability of the uncertain delayed neutral-type system by constructing a novel Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (LKF) with some delay-dependent and N-dependent items. Some new delaydependent robust stability criteria are proposed based on linear matrix inequality (LMI). The criteria proposed in this paper are less conservative than some recent previous ones. Some numerical examples, including a linear neutral-type system, the partial element equivalent circuit and a general linear system, are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
An fMRI Study Showing the Effect of Acupuncture in Chronic Stage Stroke Patients With Aphasia

Acupuncture is used as a treatment in stroke patients with aphasia, yet the underlying neural mechanisms are unknown. This study aims to examine the relationship between changes in language function and brain activation using functional magnetic resonance imaging in chronic stroke patients with aphasia who underwent an 8-week acupuncture protocol. Seven chronic stroke patients were identified from a stroke database of a regional acute hospital in Hong Kong between January and July 2007. Patients were treated three times a week over a period of 8 weeks. Four acupoints were stimulated on the weak side of the patient’s body. No other rehabilitation was given during the study period. Changes in language function were measured by aphasia quotient (AQ) of Cantonese Aphasia Battery (CAB). Functional magnetic resonance imaging blood oxygen level dependent signals were used to demonstrate the correlation between changes in AQ and brain activation after treatment. The patients were divided into well-recovered and poorlyrecovered groups based on their CAB scores at entry. The well-recovered group showed significant improvement in CAB scores after receiving acupuncture treatment. A significant correlation between changes in AQ and blood oxygen level dependent activation in the lesioned Wernicke’s speech area was found. These preliminary results suggest that acupuncture may be beneficial to language recovery in chronic stroke patients.

Probiotics are considered as the best effective alternatives to antibiotics. The aim of this study was to characterize the probiotic potential of lactobacilli for use in swine farming by using in vitro evaluation methods. A total of 106 lactic acid bacterial isolates, originating from porcine feces, were first screened for the capacity to survive stresses considered important for putative probiotic strains. Sixteen isolates showed notable acid and bile resistance, antibacterial activity, and adherence to intestinal porcine epithelial cells (IPEC-1). One isolate, LR1, identified as Lactobacillus reuteri, was selected for extensive study of its probiotic and functional properties in IPEC-1 cell models. L. reuteri LR1 exhibited good adhesion to IPEC-1 cells and could inhibit the adhesion of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) to IPEC-1 cells. L. reuteri LR1 could also modulate transcript and protein expression of cytokines involved in inflammation in IPEC-1 cells; the Lactobacillus strain inhibited the ETEC-induced expression of proinflammatory transcripts (IL-6 and TNF-α) and protein (IL-6), and increased the level of anti-inflammatory cytokine (IL-10). Measurement of the permeation of FD-4 showed that L. reuteri LR1 could maintain barrier integrity in monolayer IPEC-1 cells exposed to ETEC. Immunolocalization experiments showed L. reuteri LR1 could also prevent ETEC-induced tight junction ZO-1 disruption. Together, these results indicate that L. reuteri LR1 exhibits desirable probiotic properties and could be a potential probiotic for use in swine production.
Effects of ultrasonic radiation on induction period and nucleation kinetics of sodium sulfate
Gui-sheng Zeng,Hui Li,Shenglian Luo,Xianyong Wang,JUNHONG CHEN 한국화학공학회 2014 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.31 No.5
The effects of ultrasound on crystal nucleation and particle size distribution of sodium sulfate were investigatedvia determining the induction period and particle size. Crystal nucleation parameters and equations for primarynucleation were calculated. The experimental results show that the induction time decreases under the ultrasound irradiation, therefore, we can get a shorter induction period at a higher supersaturation level. Based on these observations, the growth mechanism of sodium sulfate is continuous growth because the value of the surface entropy factor f is smallerthan 3. The induction period was observed shorter and particle size was smaller when the ultrasonic radiation time increased. Crystal growth improved with the longer crystallization time.

Grid unbalanced faults can cause core saturation of power transformer and produce lower-order harmonics. These issues increase the electrical stress of power electronic devices and can cause a tripping of an entire HVDC system. In this paper, based on the positive-sequence and negative-sequence impedance model of a VSC-HVDC system as seen from the point of common connection (PCC), the resonance problem is analyzed and the factors determining the resonant frequency are obtained. Furthermore, to suppress over-voltage and over-current during resonance, a novel method using a virtual harmonic resistor is proposed. The virtual harmonic resistor emulates the role of a resistor connected in series with the commutating inductor without influencing the active and reactive power control. Simulation results in PSCAD/EMTDC show that the proposed control strategy can suppress resonant over-voltage and over-current. In addition, it can be seen that the proposed strategy improves the safety of the VSC-HVDC system under unbalanced faults.
Analysis and Optimization of Bidirectional Exponential SC Power Conversion Circuits
Ye, Yuanmao,Peng, Wei,Jiang, Bijia,Zhang, Xianyong The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2018 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.18 No.3
A bidirectional exponential-gain switched-capacitor (SC) DC-DC converter is developed in this paper. When compared with existing exponential SC converters, the number of switches is significantly reduced and its structure is simplified. The voltage transfer features, voltage ripple across capacitors, efficiency and output impedance of the proposed converter are analyzed in detail. Optimization of the output impedance is also discussed and the best type of capacitance distribution is determined. A common function of the voltage gain to the output impedance is found among the proposed converter and other popular SC voltage multipliers. Experimental evaluation is carried out with a 6-24V bidirectional prototype converter.
