The Flexibility Estimation for Propulsion Shaft System using the Bearing Position Influence Number

Recently, with the big system of the industrial vessel, the vessel industry has been requesting the optimized body design of vessels and Propulsion Shaft System transmitting high generating power. As this situation, a diameter of shaft transmitting the main generating power to propeller is gradually increasing. This is being caused the decrease of flexibility in the shaft alignment with the increasing the stiffness of shaft. Therefore, we concluded that there is the limits in the shaft alignment with existing reaction influence number. In this paper, I will enumerate how to find the shaft alignment with the optimum flexibility by using the reaction influence number and position influence number in the designed Propulsion Shaft System.
