<P>PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of single-session OK-432 sclerotherapy for the treatment of renal cysts. MATERIALS AND METHODS: From October 2005 to November 2006, 48 patients (61 simple renal cysts) were included in the study. Indications were determined as flank discomfort (n = 37) or patient reassurance due to increasing size (n = 11). The simple renal cysts were aspirated under ultrasonography (US), at which point OK-432 was injected into the cyst. Follow-up was performed with US or computed tomography scan every 3 months until 1 year. Complete regression of the renal cyst or more than 70% reduction in size with no symptoms indicated a successful treatment. RESULTS: Among 61 renal cysts of 48 patients, the overall success rate was 98.4%. Complete regression occurred in 46 cysts (75.4%), and more than 90% reduction in size occurred in 6 cysts (9.8%). A size reduction of 80% to 90% and 70% to 80% occurred in five (8.2%) and three cysts (4.9%), respectively. A size reduction less than 70% occurred in only one cyst (1.6%). The success of cyst regression was correlated with cyst volume. Clinical symptoms resolved in 100% of patients with symptomatic cysts, and there was no enlargement of the aspirated cysts at the 1-year follow-up. After the procedure, there were only some minor complications, such as mild fever, flank pain, and leukocytosis, which subsided with the conservative treatment. CONCLUSIONS: Percutaneous OK-432 sclerotherapy is simple, safe, and effective, and it can be an alternative first-line therapy for simple renal cysts.</P>
Development of Baler Working Mode for an Agricultural Tractor using Workloads

The performance of the tractor was evaluated through field test and full load test. These methods have disadvantages such as equipment construction and manpower consumption. In addition, it is difficult to obtain reliable data because it is affected by many variables such as soil condition, climate, and operator. In the automotive area a standardized driving cycle was developed to solve those problems and performance evaluation using driving cycle was performed in the indoors. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to develop baler working mode for agricultural tractors using workloads. A load measurement system was installed on a 71 kW tractor to collect field data from loads acting on the transmission input shaft, the PTO input shaft, and the hydraulic pumps. Baler operation was conducted on ten farmlands of similar size. The processes of the baler operation were divided into bailing, tying a bale, and discharging. The results showed that most of the torque was generated on PTO input shaft among various components. The engine load during baler operation showed a similar pattern with the PTO input shaft torque. The maximum engine torque was about 270 Nm. The baler working mode was developed using methods of mode development and measured workload in the field. The verification of developed working mode was conducted by comparing with conventional method. The results showed that the developed baler working mode can be applied to performance evaluation of agricultural tractors.

<P>Bienzymatic<I>acetylcholinesterase</I>(AChE) and<I>choline oxidase</I>(ChOx) immobilized biosensor based on a phenyl carboxylic acid-grafted multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWNT) modified glass carbon electrode (GCE) and carbon-screen printed electrode (SPE) was fabricated for acetylcholine detection in human blood samples. Phenyl carboxylic acid-modified MWNT supports were prepared by electrochemical polymerization of 4-carboxyphenyl diazonium salts, which were synthesized by an amine group and sodium nitrite, on the surface of the MWNT-modified GCE and SPE in 0.1 M PBS. The successful fabrication of the AChE-ChOx-immobilized biosensor was confirmed via scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The sensing range of the biosensor based on a GCE and SPE was 1.0~10 <I>μ</I>M and 10~100 <I>μ</I>M, respectively. The interfering effect of 0.1 M L-ascorbic acid, 0.1 M L-cysteine, and 0.1 M uric acid to 0.1 M acetylcholine was 3.00%, 9.00%, and 3.00%, respectively. Acetylcholine in a human blood sample was detected by the AChE-ChOx-immobilized biosensor.</P>

<P>Propolis is a natural product made by honeybees that has been widely used in folk medicine with a broad spectrum of biological activities. To investigate the antidepressant-like activity of propolis extract, CD-1 mice were administered an ethanol extract of propolis (50, 100, or 200 mg/kg, p.o.) prior to the behavioral test. The propolis extract-treated group showed a dose-dependent decrease in immobility time in the FST and tail suspension test without altering locomotor activity. Propolis extract decreased the limbic hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis response to the FST as indicated by an attenuated corticosterone response and decreased in c-fos immunoreactive neurons in the hippocampal dentate gyrus. Western blot analysis revealed a reduction in hippocampal glucocorticoid receptor (GR) expression following the FST, which was reversed by propolis extract. Propolis extract also increased pGR(S220)/(S234) ratio by a differential phosphorylation in S220 and S234. FST-induced downregulation of cAMP-responsive element binding protein phosphorylation at S133 (pCREB) was restored by propolis extract, showing a strong and positive relationship between pCREB and pGR(S220)/(S234) ratio. These findings suggest that the propolis extract potentiates antidepressant-like activity by enhancing GR function which is one of the therapeutic mechanisms of antidepressant; thus, propolis extract may provide a novel therapy for depression.</P>

Zoster sine herpete (ZSH) is difficult to diagnosis during an acute period due to the absence of the characteristic zosteriform dermatomal rash; therefore, progression to postherpetic neuralgia is more common than typical zoster. In addition, misdiagnosis of other neuropathic pain as ZSH is common in clinical situations. Here, we report a case of spinal arteriovenous malformation that mimics ZSH. This is a rare condition; therefore, high clinical suspicion for a correct diagnosis and proper examination are not easy. However, early diagnosis and definitive treatment are essential to prevent neurologic deficit and mortality.
Age and Growth of Barbel Steed Hemibarbus labeo in Goe-san Lake in Korea

Age and growth of Hemibarbus labeo caught from Goe-san Lake in South Korea from March to November, 2011, were studied. A total of 201 specimens was collected, ranging from 110 to 580 mm in total length (TL). Males and females made up 47.9% and 52.1% of the sample, respectively. Marginal increment analyses showed that vertebral increments, each composed of one opaque and one hyaline zone, were deposited annually. Opaque edges were prevalent from June to July. The relationship between TL and vertebral radius was linear, with equations of R = 0.008TL - 0.208 (male) and R = 0.009TL - 0.272 (female). Regression equations between TL and total weight (TW) were $TW=9{\times}10^{-6}TL^{2.987}$ (male), $TW=8{\times}10^{-6}TL^{3.014}$ (female), and $TW=9{\times}10^{-6}TL^{2.988}$ (combined sexes), according to the von Bertalanffy growth equation. Back-calculated TL was expressed using the von Bertalanffy equation as follows: $L_t=438.25(1-e^{-0.175(t+0.164)})$ for males, $L_t=483.36(1-e^{-0.147(t+0.115)})$ for females, and $L_t=464.86(1-e^{-0.162(t+0.176)})$ for the sexes combined. The growth performances were 4.526, 4.536, and 4.544, respectively.

This study was performed mainly to examine whether a city with a metal industrial presence presents different characteristics in ambient volatile organic compound (VOC) concentrations compared to residential (RES) and commercial/residential combined (CRC) areas of another city by using long-term monitoring data (from January 2006 to February 2009). For most target VOCs, ambient concentrations in the metal-industrialized city were lower than for the RES and CRC areas. Aromatic compounds were the predominant VOC groups for the metal industry city as well as for other land uses. The ambient concentrations of aromatic VOCs were higher in the winter and spring seasons than in the summer and fall seasons, whereas those of chlorinated VOCs did not show any distinctive variations. In addition, higher concentrations were observed during daytime hours. The correlations between the ambient target compounds were statistically significant, except for the correlation between benzene and ozone.
