Adaptive Hierarchical Surrogate for Searching Web with Mobile Devices
Wookey Lee,Sanggil Kang,Seungkil Lim,Myong-Keun Shin,Young-Kuk Kim IEEE 2007 IEEE transactions on consumer electronics Vol.53 No.2

This paper proposes a new web-page search mechanism suitable for mobile devices, called an adaptive hypermedia search. It utilizes hierarchical structure of hypermedia objects for handheld devices, such as cellular phones and PDAs, which have usually limited resources. We developed a tree-filtering algorithm and a Top_K_algorithm that can be used to provide search recommendations for mobile devices. In the experimental section, we implement our system in Windows Mobile 5.0 SDK environment and show that our method can save mobile resource in terms of web- page search time. Also, we show the resource savings according to different wireless technologies such as WiBro, HSDPA, and Wi-Fi.

Distributed Database Replicator Without Locking Base Relations
Lee, WooKey,Kang, Sukho,Park, Jooseok 한국경영과학회 1996 한국경영과학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.- No.2
A replication server is considered to be one of the most effective tools to cope with the problems that may be caused by the complex data replications in distributed database systems. In the distributed environment, locking a table is inevitable and it is the main reason to coerce the system practically. This paper presents an Asynchronous Replicator Scheme (ARS) that basically utilizes the system log as files named differential files to refresh the distributed data files with complicated queries, and that it prevents (normally, huge) base tables from being locked. We take join operations as the complicated queries, not only because the join operation covers most all the operations. but also because it is one of the most time-consuming and data intensive operations in query processings.
Mobile Web Navigation in Digital Ecosystems Using Rooted Directed Trees
Wookey Lee,Leung, C K,Lee, J J H IEEE 2011 IEEE transactions on industrial electronics Vol.58 No.6

Due to advances in techniques for digital ecosystems and cyber engineering, users can now submit queries to search for inclusive information from different Web objects using mobile handheld devices such as smartphones in many real-life situations. As these mobile devices are not necessarily connected to the Internet all the time, users usually want to be able to get information such as e-mail, news, weather, and Web feed as soon as their mobile devices are connected to the Internet. However, these mobile devices have relatively limited resources. In this paper, we focus on mobile web navigation. Specifically, we use rooted directed trees, which enable users to access valuable information from the highly ranked and relevant Web sites, for answering user-inclusive queries.

Refreshing Distributed Multiple Views and Replicas
Lee, Wookey,Park, Jooseok,Kang, Sukho 한국경영과학회 1996 韓國經營科學會誌 Vol.21 No.1
In this paper we prescribe a replication server scheme with an algorithm DRF (Differential Refresh File) to refresh multiple materialized views and replicas in distributed environments. Before sending relevant tuples in server sites to client sites, an effective tuple reduction scheme is developed as a preprocessor to reduce the transmission cost. Because it utilizes differential files without touching base relations, the DRF scheme can help to minimize the number of locks, which enhances the system's performance.
Optimization Model on the World Wide Web Organization with respect to Content Centric Measures
Lee, Wookey,Kim, Seung,Kim, Hando,Kang, Sukho 한국경영과학회 2005 韓國經營科學會誌 Vol.30 No.1
The structure of a Web site can prevent the search robots or crawling agents from confusion in the midst of huge forest of the Web pages. We formalize the view on the World Wide Web and generalize it as a hierarchy of Web objects such as the Web as a set of Web sites, and a Web site as a directed graph with Web nodes and Web edges. Our approach results in the optimal hierarchical structure that can maximize the weight, tf-idf (term frequency and inverse document frequency), that is one of the most widely accepted content centric measures in th information retrieval community, so that the measure can be used to embody the semantics of search query. The experimental results represent that the optimization model is an effective alternative in the dynamically changing Web environment by replacing conventional heuristic approaches.
