Financial Integration?Growth Nexus: A Quantile Regression Analysis

        ( Saifuzzaman Ibrahim ),( A. R Mazlina ),( W. N. W Azman-saini ),( Muhammad Farhan Mahamad Zakaria ) 세종대학교 경제통합연구소 2016 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.31 No.3

Our study aims to examine the role of economic development in moderating the relationship between international financial integration and economic growth, and we find that international financial integration has a positive impact on economic growth by and large. However, the growth impact of international financial integration does not exist in countries where economic development is too low or in highly developed countries. This suggests that policy makers, especially in developing countries, should ensure the presences of capabilities in order to gain from the financial market integration. The method involves a quantile regression technique on cross-sectional data of 73 countries.

The Effect of Gender Imbalance on Housing Price in China

Xinping HAN,W,N,W,AZMAN-SAINI,Anitha ROSLAND,Yasmin BANI,Siong Hook LAW 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.7

House ownership is considered as one of the important pre-conditions for marriage in China. Given that gender imbalance is a prominent issue in the country, competition for marriage partners might motivate males to look for a house and probably bigger and more expensive house. This is believed to have caused house price hikes in recent years. This study aims to investigate the impact of gender imbalance on house prices using data from 30 provinces in China for the 2000–2017 period. The results based on the generalized method of moments (GMM) estimations show that house price is strongly influenced by gender imbalance. However, there is no evidence to support differential effects across eastern and mid-western regions. One potential reason is that pre-marriage house ownership has become a common culture for the whole community and therefore it does not vary significantly across regions. There are several important policy implications. Firstly, the issues should be addressed by the policymakers at national level and not regional level. Secondly, the government should intervene to bring back gender ratio to its normal level. Finally, the government should limit the number of houses people can buy and increase the supply of houses in the market.

The Role of Intelligence (IQ) on The Globalization-Income Inequality Nexus: A Threshold Regression Approach

        Saifuzzaman IBRAHIM,A. R. MAZLINA,W. N. W. AZMAN-SAINI,Nik Ahmad Sufian BURHAN 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.12

Globalization is an economic process responsible for the increase of interdependence of world economies. It enhances the mobility of national resources internationally via the integration of markets, trade and investments with minimal barriers to slow the flow of products and services. Although globalization has some positive impacts on the economy, it is said to be a factor in the decline of income inequality of the participating countries. However, the results of previous studies on the relationship between globalization and income inequality are inconclusive. This suggests that there are other factors influencing the relationship between the two variables. The purpose of this study is to examine the role of intelligence (IQ) in the globalization-income inequality relationship. This study employs the threshold regression technique and cross-nation observations from 117 sample nations for the period 1980–2016. The results show that the impact of globalization on income inequality in a nation relies on its IQ level. The results imply that economic globalization has a negative impact on income inequality in nations with lower IQ levels. It widens the gap between the poor and rich. While in nations with higher IQ levels, it seems to not have any significant impact on income distribution.

Foreign and Domestic Shocks: Macroeconomic Responses of ASEAN-3 Countries

Mohd Azlan Shah Zaidi,ZULKEFLY ABDUL KARIM,W.N.W. AZMAN-SAINI 연세대학교 동서문제연구원 2013 Global economic review Vol.42 No.3

The study provides new empirical evidence on the relative importance of foreign and domestic shocks on selected ASEAN-3 (Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand) macroeconomic variables. Three structural vector auto regression models are estimated for each country. The focal point is given on the formulation of the sources of foreign factors. The first model uses tradeweighted foreign variables of both US and Japan to represent the foreign factors. The other two models use US and Japan by themselves, respectively, to represent the foreign factors. Two important results are emerged. First, foreign sectors play an important role in influencing macroeconomic variables of each of the ASEAN-3 country, especially in the medium and the longrun horizon. Second, most of the time, the Japanese factors are more dominant than the US factors in influencing domestic output and inflation for each of the ASEAN-3 countries.
