$\mu$-PD법에 의해 육성한 KLN단결정의 제2고조파 발생(SHG) 특성

Potassium lithium niobate (KLN) crystals, grown by the micro pulling down $({\mu}-PD)$ method, have been considered on the interchange between incongruent melt composition and second harmonic generation (SHG) properties because of the sensitive interaction. Correlation between the composition of crystals and the wavelength of SHG applications from ultra - violet to green region was found. Also, the ${\mu}-PD KLN$ KLN crystals showed a homogeneity of noncritical phase matching and an excellent SHG property which is converted to blue laser light with half wavelength by the red irradiation. ${\mu}-PD KLN$법에 의해 육성한 KLN 단결정은 적색 레이저를 이용한 제2 고조파 발생(SHG) 특성 평가에 의해 noncritical phase-matching(NCPM)의 파장의 균일성과 우수한 온도 특성을 갖고 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 융액의 조성을 변화시키면서 성장된 결정의 NCPM 파장 측정에 의해 조성과 SHG 특성 사이에는 민감한 상호관계가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이로부터 원료의 조성제어를 통한 ${\mu}-PD KLN$은 청색에서 녹색파장을 걸치는 넓은 범위에서의 선택적인 SHG 응용이 기대된다.

Scintillating properties of Bi-doped $Y_3Ga_5O_{12}$

Shaped single crystals of Bi : $Y_3Ga_5O_{12}$(Bi = 0.041, 0.047 and 0.061 mol%) were grown by the micro-pulling-down method. Optical absorption spectra show an absorption band at 288 nm ascribed to the lowest energy $6s^2$ \longrightarrow 6s6p transition of $Bi^{3+}$ , while luminescence spectra demonstrate the band at 314 nm ascribed to the reverse radiative transition of the excited $Bi^{3+}$ centres. At room temperature, dominant decay time component was found to be about 440 ns with a minor slower component 580 ns.

Photoluminescence properties of bulk and microstructured ZnO crystals are investigated for potential scintillator applications. A bulk crystal is prepared by hydrothermal method, while hexagonal micron-sized crystals are prepared by aqueous chemical growth and carbothermal reduction methods. The bulk sample exhibits UV emission only, while the microstructured samples exhibit both UV and visible emissions. The ZnO microstructures have faster near-band edge emission lifetimes of 100 to 800 ps compared to 440 ps and 2 ns of bulk ZnO. No direct correlation between the defect-related emissions and the near-band edge emission has been observed. ZnO microstructures with fast luminescence lifetimes have promising applications as EUV lithography and XFELs scintillators.
Growth and upconversion properties of erbium doped $LiNbO_{3}$ single crystal fibers

Erbium (Er) doped $LiNbO_{3}(Er:LiNbO_{3})$ single crystal fibers were grown free of creacks along the c-axis by micro-pulling down method. The $Er^{3+}$ concentration was distributed homogeneously along the growth axis. The samples for optical characterization were cut from as-grown single crystal fibers and polished. When the 980nm light was incident on the sample, upconversion phenomena were observed at the green range of wavelength 510~570nm. In addition, the intensity of upconversion was remarkably increased by increasing the concentration of $Er_{2}O_{3}$ dopant in as-grown $Er:LiNbO_{3}$ crystals.
