Review : Nonerosive Reflux Disease (NERD)-An Update
( Tiberiu Hershcovici ),( Ronnie Fass ) 대한소화관운동학회 2010 Journal of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (JNM Vol.16 No.1
Recognizing nonerosive reflux disease (NERD) as a distinct presentation of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) was one of the most important developments in the field of GERD in the Last decade. Whilst the definition of NERD has not changed significantly over the years, the disorder accounts for the majority of the GERD patients and those who failed proton pump inhibitor (PPI) treatment. Recent developments in NERD focused primarily on understanding the pathophysiology and natural history. The introduction of esophageal impedance + pH has Led to the assessment of other forms of gastroesophageal reflux in causing NERD. Therapeutic modalities still focus on acid suppression, but there is growing recognition that other therapeutic strategies should be considered in NERD.(J Neurogastroenterol Motil 2010;16:8-21)
Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability of a quadratic functional equation
Tiberiu Trif 대한수학회 2003 대한수학회보 Vol.40 No.2
In this paper we deal with the quadratic functional equationbegin{eqnarray*}& & n^2binom{n-2}{k-2}fleft(frac{x_1+cdots+x_n}{n}right)+binom{n-2}{k-1}sum_{i=1}^n f(x_i) & =& k^2sum_{1leq i_1<cdots<i_kleq n}fleft(frac{x_{i_1}+cdots+x_{i_k}}{k}right),end{eqnarray*}deriving from an inequality of T. Popoviciu for convex functions. We solve this functional equation by proving thatits solutions are the polynomials of degree at most two. Likewise, we investigate its stability in the spirit ofHyers, Ulam, and Rassias.

This paper tests the stability of the money-demand function in selected Central and Eastern European countries and investigates the extent to which money helps predict inflation. We first show that long-run money demand is better described with an open-economy model, which considers a currency-substitution effect, rather than the closed-economy model used in several previous studies. From the estimated models, we derive two measures of monetary overhang. Then we compare the ability of open-economy model and closed-economy model based measures of monetary overhang to predict inflation in the CEE countries (i.e., the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Poland). Whereas we cannot detect a significant difference in forecast accuracy between the two competing models, we show that the open-economy model based forecast model that reveals a stable long-run money demand encompasses the closed-economy model based version.

Objective: Mechanical alterations of the spine, which can cause chronic low back pain (LBP), are a frequent indication for spinal fusion. Studies have shown differences between genders in patients’ evaluations of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) after spinal procedures, but results have been conflicting, and some authors have suggested that cultural variation could explain these discrepancies. The objectives of this study were to determine the influence that gender plays on HRQoL, disability, and the correlation between the 2 in people undergoing spinal fusion for chronic LBP at a neurosurgical centre in Eastern Europe. Methods: Patients undergoing fusion surgery at a single centre for LBP with a duration of more than 3 months were included. They were evaluated using the Short Form Health Survey version-2.0 (SF-36v2) and Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Index (ODI) questionnaire preoperatively and 1 year after the surgical procedure to identify differences between genders and to evaluate correlations between disability and quality of life. Results: We included 31 female and 30 male patients. The male patients had higher disability scores at the preoperative evaluation, but improved more than females in all domains of disability at the postoperative evaluation. HRQoL improved similarly in both genders. The ODI score showed a strong or moderate correlation with 6 of the domains of the SF-36 in males, but with only 3 domains in females. Surgery had a positive impact on the mental status of more men than women at risk of depression. Conclusion: The type of benefit that surgery offers seems to be influenced by gender. While HRQoL improved in both genders, disability decreased significantly more in male patients. Male patients also showed a closer correlation between HRQoL and disability. We conclude that men and women place different importance on specific aspects of their overall quality of life.
