The aim of this work is the development of a 2D quadrilateral isoparametric finite element model, based on a layerwise approach, for the bending analysis of sandwich plates. The face sheets and the core are modeled individually using, respectively, the first order shear deformation theory and the third-order plate theory. The displacement continuity condition at the interfaces „face sheets-core‟ is satisfied. The assumed natural strains method is introduced to avoid an eventual shear locking phenomenon. The developed element is a four-nodded isoparametric element with fifty two degrees-of-freedom (52 DOF). Each face sheet has only two rotational DOF per node and the core has nine DOF per node: six rotational degrees and three translation components which are common for the all sandwich layers. The performance of the proposed element model is assessed by six examples, considering symmetric/unsymmetric composite sandwich plates with different aspect ratios, loadings and boundary conditions. The numerical results obtained are compared with the analytical solutions and the numerical results obtained by other authors. The results indicate that the proposed element model is promising in terms of the accuracy and the convergence speed for both thin and thick plates.

Post-harvest handling and hygienic level of aquatic products significantly affect the quality and level of safety. Cold chain control is one of the determining factors for the quality of fish and the bacterial community that grows on the fish. Identification of spoilage bacteria and pathogens in aquatic products must be made because it will determine the physical and chemical quality. A molecular identification method with high sensitivity is the solution. This study aims to identify the quality of fish and bacterial communities that grow. The research procedures included sample collection, pH measurement, drip loss measurement, transportation and cold storage treatment, DNA extraction, DNA sequencing, sequence analysis, and bioinformatics analysis. The conclusion obtained from this study is that the simulation of the cold chain system applied to eastern little tuna does not significantly affect changes in the water activity value, pH, and drip loss. The insignificant change indicates that the eastern little tuna samples are still in good quality. The bioinformatics analysis showed the highest diversity and abundance of the bacterial community came from the Gammaproteobacterial class.

Seven flavonoid compounds, kaempferol (1), quercetin (2), quercetin-3-O-b-D-glucopyranoside (3), kaempferol-3-O-b-D-glucopyranoside (4), kaempferol-3-O-a-L-rhamnoside (5), quercetin-3-O-sophoroside (6) and quercetin-3-O-rutinoside (7), were isolated from the methanolic extract of leaves of Kalanchoe prolifera. Compounds 1-7 were isolated for first time from this plant. These compounds were evaluated their cytotoxic activity against P-388 murine leukimia cells in vitro. Among those compounds kaempferol (1) and quercetin (2) showed strongest cytotoxic activity with IC50 values of 4.45 ? 0.05 and 6.28 ? 0.02 mg/mL, respectively.

Activated carbon (AC) derived from coconut shells (CS-AC) was obtained through pyrolysis at 700℃ and subsequently activated with H3PO4. AC was ground in a Wiley mill several times to form powder particles at particle scales of 80, 100, and 200 meshes. The characterization of the AC was studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and surface area analysis (SBET). The CS-AC-200 mesh resulted in a higher percentage of mesopores and surface area. This particle size had a larger surface area with angular, irregular, and crushed shapes in the SEM view. The smaller particles had smoother surfaces, less wear, and increased curing depth and ratio of the hardness of the resin composite. Based on the characterization results of the AC, it is evident that CS-AC with a 200 mesh particle size has the potential to be used as a filler in biocomposites.

Purpose: Classical criteria for diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) are intended as research tool and are difficult to apply at patient's bedside. We aimed to study the accuracy of simplified criteria and the concordance with the expert diagnosis based on the original criteria. Methods: A cohort of children under study for liver disorder was selected through consecutive sampling to obtain the prevalence of AIH within the group of differential diagnoses. AIH was defined, based on classical criteria, through committee review of medical reports. Validity indicators of the simplified criteria were obtained in an intention to diagnose approach. Optimal cut-off and the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve were calculated. Results: Out of 212 cases reviewed, 47.2% were AIH. For the optimal cut-off (6 points), the simplified criteria showed a sensitivity of 72.0% and a specificity of 96.4%, with a 94.7% positive and a 79.4% negative predictive value. The area under the ROC curve was 94.3%. There was a good agreement in the pre-treatment concordance between the classical and the simplified criteria (kappa index, 0.775). Conclusion: Simplified criteria provide a moderate sensitivity for the diagnosis of AIH, but may help in indicating treatment in cases under suspicion with 6 or more points.
