Determinants of the Volumetric Markers of Left Atrial Contraction Function in Coronary Artery Disease: A Cross-sectional Study

        Taimoor Etemad,Ali Hosseinsabet,Negar Omidi,Reza Mohseni-Badalabadi 한국심초음파학회 2022 Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging (J Cardiovasc Im Vol.30 No.1

BACKGROUND: A body of research advocates the prognostic role and usefulness of the volumetric markers of left atrial (LA) phasic functions in the diagnosis of LA dysfunction. We aimed to determine the independent determinants of the volumetric markers of LA contraction function in candidates for coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. METHODS: This cross-sectional study enrolled 516 candidates for CABG. The biplane maximal, minimal, and pre-P volumes of the LA were measured with two-dimensional echocardiography, and LA active emptying fraction was calculated. The standardized correlation coefficient for the correlation between each factor and LA active emptying fraction was calculated by using univariate and backward multivariable regression analyses. RESULTS: The multivariable regression analysis demonstrated that the heart rate (β = 0.15; p = 0.001), S (β = 0.09; p = 0.036), E/e′ ratio (β = −0.11; p = 0.014), left ventricle (LV) ejection fraction (β = 0.15; p = 0.001), and LA enlargement (β = −0.19; p < 0.001) were the independent determinants of LA active emptying fraction. CONCLUSIONS: The independent determinants of LA contraction function were the heart rate, S, LV ejection fraction, LA enlargement, and E/e′ ratio in candidates for CABG surgery.

      • 이중 SGRU-DCNN 기반 태양광 발전 예측

        Taimoor Khan,JunHo Yoon,Chang Choi 한국차세대컴퓨팅학회 2023 한국차세대컴퓨팅학회 학술대회 Vol.2023 No.06

Solar power generation provides significant environmental and economical advantages, in comparison to nuclear and fossil fuel. Although, due to the unpredictable and intermittent patterns in the data, it is difficult to forecast power generation effectively. Therefore, in this study, we proposed stacked Gated Recurrent Units (SGRU) and deep Convolutional Neural Networks (DCNN) for power generation forecasting. Initially, data preprocessing strategies are applied such as imputing missing values and data normalization, to convert the raw input data into refined formate. The proposed dual SGRUDCNN is then used to learn temporal pattern via SGRU and spatial pattern via DCNN, followed by a feature fusion layer, where the outputs vectors of both networks are integrated into a single representative feature vector and fed to fully connected layers for final forecasting. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the SGRU-DCNN is evaluated via two benchmarks where the SGRU-DCNN achieved optimal performance among state-of-the-art (SOTA) architectures.

Proboscis lateralis: A case report of a rare giant craniofacial teratoma in an infant

        Sultan Al-Shaqsi,Taimoor Al-Bulushi,Qasim Al-Hinai 대한성형외과학회 2018 Archives of Plastic Surgery Vol.45 No.6

Teratomas can occur in almost any region of the body and are the most common extragonadal germ cell childhood tumors. However, craniofacial teratomas are rare. Craniofacial teratomas can present unique features and cause significant functional and aesthetic concerns. There are complex lesions that can have components intra-cranially and extra-cranially. Therefore, their management requires significant multi-stage multidisciplinary surgical procedures. Herein, we present a case of craniofacial teratoma in a child with the phenotype of proboscis lateralis that highlights some of the pertinent point of the diagnosis and management of congenital neonatal teratomas.

Antifungal Effect of Plant Essential Oils on Controlling Phytophthora Species

        Jahanshir Amini,Vahid Farhang,Taimoor Javadi,Javad Nazemi 한국식물병리학회 2016 Plant Pathology Journal Vol.32 No.1

In this study, antifungal activity of essential oils of Cymbopogon citratus and Ocimum basilicum and two fungicides Mancozeb and Metalaxyl-Mancozeb in six different concentrations were investigated for controlling three species of Phytophthora, including P. capsici, P. drechsleri and P. melonis on pepper, cucumber and melon under in vitro and greenhouse conditions, respectively. Under the in vitro condition, the median effective concen- tration (EC50) values (ppm) of plant essential oils and fungicides were measured. In greenhouse, soil infested with Phytophthora species was treated by adding 50 ml of essential oils and fungicides (100 ppm). Disease severity was determined after 28 days. Among two tested plant essential oils, C. citratus had the lowest EC50 values for inhibition of the mycelial growth of P. capsici (31.473), P. melonis (33.097) and P. drechsleri (69.112), respectively. The mean EC50 values for Metalaxyl-Mancozeb on these pathogens were 20.87, 20.06 and 17.70, respectively. Chemical analysis of plant essential oils by GC-MS showed that, among 42 compounds identified from C. citratus, two compounds β-geranial (α-citral) (39.16%) and z-citral (30.95%) were the most abundant. Under the greenhouse condition, Metalaxyl-Mancozeb caused the greatest reduction in disease severity, 84.2%, 86.8% and 92.1% on melon, cucumber, and pepper, respectively. The C. citratus essential oil reduced disease severity from 47.4% to 60.5% compared to the untreated control (p ≤ 0.05). Essential oils of O. basilicum had the lowest effects on the pathogens under in vitro and greenhouse conditions. These results show that essential oils may contribute to the development of new antifungal agents to protect the crops from Phytophthora diseases.

Studying Control Strategies for Dimensional Precision in Aerospace Parts Machining

        Waqas Saleem,Hassan Ijaz,Muhammad Zain-ul-Abdein,Aqeel Ahmed Taimoor,Wang Yunqiao 한국정밀공학회 2017 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.18 No.1

Dimensional instability in machined aerospace parts is a complex engineering problem which is contributed by many factors. Mainly, the machining stresses developed during the part’s material cutting, cause dimensional imperfections. The complex interaction of mechanical, thermal, and metallurgical transformations makes it difficult to establish the exact reasoning of part’s desired dimensional instability. The research work presented here deals with the investigations of machining stresses and subsequent dimensional deformations in aerospace grade aluminum alloys. A commercial finite analysis code is applied to simulate the residual stresses and machining process. The stress profiles developed from the numerical simulations are compared with standard curves. The actual machined part’s deviations are measured on a CMM (coordinate measuring machine). The experimental and numerical results are found consistent with each other. This validates the control strategies adopted to simulate the machining stresses and resultant deformations.

Effect of pH and Concentration on Electrochemical Corrosion Behavior of Aluminum Al-7075 T6 Alloy in NaCl Aqueous Environment

Raza, Syed Abbas,Karim, Muhammad Ramzan Abdul,Shehbaz, Tauheed,Taimoor, Aqeel Ahmad,Ali, Rashid,Khan, Muhammad Imran The Korean Electrochemical Society 2022 Journal of electrochemical science and technology Vol.13 No.2

In the present study, the corrosion behavior of aluminum Al-7075 tempered (T-6 condition) alloy was evaluated by immersion testing and electrochemical testing in 1.75% and 3.5% NaCl environment at acidic, neutral and basic pH. The data obtained by both immersion tests and electrochemical corrosion tests (potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy tests) present that the corrosion rate of the alloy specimens is minimum for the pH=7 condition of the solution due to the formation of dense and well adherent thin protective oxide layer. Whereas the solutions with acidic and alkaline pH cause shift in the corrosion behavior of aluminum alloy to more active domains aggravated by the constant flux of acidic and alkaline ions (Cl- and OH-) in the media which anodically dissolve the Al matrix in comparison to precipitated intermetallic phases (cathodic in nature) formed due to T6 treatment. Consequently, the pitting behavior of the alloy, as observed by cyclic polarization tests, shifts to more active regions when pH of the solutions changes from neutral to alkaline environment due to localized dissolution of the matrix in alkaline environment that ingress by diffusion through the pores in the oxide film. Microscopic analysis also strengthens the results obtained by immersion corrosion testing and electrochemical corrosion testing as the study examines the corrosion behavior of this alloy under a systematic evaluation in marine environment.
