Vehicle detection using HSV color system is studied. HSV color system is consisted of three parameters; that is, hue (H), saturation (S), and value (V). The background subtraction static method is used in the detection process. The performance of each of these three parameters in HSV color system in detecting cars in parking spaces under different brightness conditions is studied. Two different colors of parking space are used; that is, grey and green, in order to determine the detection performance of the HSV color system in practice. From the study, it is found that among three parameters of HSV color system, under different brightness, for gray parking space, saturation (S) is the most useful parameter in object detection applications while under green parking space, the most useful parameter is hue, H, parameter.

Hard Disk Drive’s arm (HDD’s arm) is one of the key elements in the HDD assembly. This element has to have the height of the arm measured from the reference be in the required range. To get such requirement, HDD’s arms have to pass to a bending machine in order to measure and adjust the height of the arms accordingly. Currently, if needed, a pre-defined bending force is applied to the arm. In this paper, the fuzzy logic rule to control the bending force is proposed. From the experimental data, it is found that the performance of the proposed technique in terms of the process capability index of the arm height error is superior to the conventional technique.

Genetic algorithm (GA) has been shown to be an alternative for achieving suitable subcarriers in subcarrier multiplexing (SCM) on multimode fiber. Because of the relatively-flat frequency response at high frequency range of the multimode fiber, the suitable subcarriers can be determined by applying GA to many divided frequency ranges simultaneously; that is, Parallel GA. In this paper, parallel GA is adopted for searching suitable subcarriers in SCM on multimode fiber. Thirty suitable subcarriers, which are not located at any nulls in the frequency response of multimode fiber, are determined. These subcarriers are then used for transmitting many subcarrier signals through the high frequency bands of multimode fiber resulting in a total data rate of 15 times larger than the data rate obtaining from the 3-㏈ intermodal bandwidth.
