Analysis of Characteristics of Spent Fuels on Long-Term Dry Storage Condition

Currently, the interim storage pools of spent fuels in South Korea are expected to become saturated from 2024. It is required to prepare an operation plan of a domestic dry storage facility during a long-term period, with the researches on safety evaluation methods. This study modified the FRAPCON code to predict the spent fuel integrity evaluation such as the axial cladding temperature, the hoop stress and hydrogen distribution in dry storage. The cladding temperature in dry storage was calculated using the COBRA-SFS code with the burnup information which was calculated using the FRAPCON code. The hoop stress was calculated using the ideal gas equation with spent fuel information such as rod internal pressure. Numerical analysis method was used to calculate the degree of hydrogen diffusion according to the hydrogen concentration and temperature distribution during a dry storage period. Before 50 years of dry storage, the cladding temperature and hoop stress decreased rapidly. However, after 50 years, they decreased gradually and the cladding temperature was below 400 K. The initial temperature distribution and hydrogen concentration showed a parabolic line, but hydrogen was transferred by the hydrogen concentration and temperature gradient over time.

Purpose: This study was to identify the relationships of health literacy, medication adherence and self-care performance for patients with diabetes mellitus. Method: 110 Patients with diabetes mellitus were recruited from one hospital in Seoul, using Korean Health Literacy Assessment Tool for health literacy, Korean version of Morisky Medication Adherence Scale for medication adherence, and Korean version of Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities Questionnaire for self-care performance. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS version 22.0 the mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, and multiple linear regression. Results: Other medical history of chronic disease(B=2.085, p<.05), time since diabetes mellitus diagnosis(B=-.631, p<.001), complications associated with diabetes mellitus(B=-3.119, p<.05), and health literacy(B=1.132, p<.01), each found to affect self-care performance and time sincce diabetes mellitus has the largest effect (B=-.631, p<.001). Model`s R<sup>2</sup> is 0.592. Conclusion: Self care performance of patients with diabetes mellitus was affected by other medical history of chronic disease, diabetes mellitus diagnosis duration, complications associated with diabetes mellitus and health literacy. Among these factors, diabetes mellitus diagnosis duration had the largest effect. Therefore, to improve diabetes mellitus patients`s self-care performance, an integrative approach should be pursued considering patient`s diabetes mellitus diagnosis duration, complications associated with diabetes mellitus and health literacy.
기체 출구 면적 및 분무 조건에 따른 핀틀 분사기의 분무 특성

A pintle injector can adjust rocket thrust by controlling the propellant orifice size. Therefore, it can be used for reusable launch vehicle or planetary lander. In this study, a pintle injector was designed and manufactured with a target of 400N class thruster. Among the various factors determining the spray characteristics of the pintle injector, the effect of the exit area of the axial gas flow was examined. As a result, it was confirmed that the spray angle decreased as the gas exit area decreased because the axial momentum relatively increased.

본 연구에서는 기체메탄/액체산소 용 핀틀 분사기를 설계하고 모사 추진제로 물과 공기를 이용하여 분무 특성을 관찰하였다. 반경 방향 유동의 균일도 향상을 위해 세 가지 타입의 핀틀 형상을 제작하고 100% 유량 조건에서 그 특성을 파악하였다. 또한 핀틀 분사기를 통한 유량 조절을 통해 유량 변경 시의 분무 형태도 파악하였다. 핀틀 끝단에 실린더 형태의 홀이 있을 때 균일도가 향상되었으며, 동일 액체 유량 조건에서 기체 유량이 증가할 경우, 분무각이 감소하는 것을 확인하였다. In this study, a pintle injector for gaseous methane/liquid oxygen was designed and spray characteristics were observed using water and air as a simulant. Three types of pintle geometries were fabricated to improve the uniformity of the radial flow. Their characteristics were determined at 100% flow rate. In addition, the spray pattern was also obtained by controlling the flow rate through the pintle injector. The uniformity was improved when there was a cylinder hole at the end of the pintle. It was also confirmed that the spray angle decreased when the gas flow rate increased under the same liquid flow rate condition.
Startup Analysis Simulator for a Small Staged Combustion-Cycle Engine Powerpack

<P>In general, staged combustion-cycle engines have higher propulsion efficiency than that of open-cycle engines, prompting further research to develop the next generation of the former type of engines. Especially when it is on the development stage, a liquid rocket engine system may show unpredictable behavior affected by pressure and/or temperature variation. In addition, it is more dangerous when the engine is on the starting process. Therefore, prediction of the engine start up is very important both for the development of liquid rocket engines, and for preventing unfortunate accidents. In this study, a startup analysis simulator was developed for staged combustion-cycle engine powerpacks. This simulator can predict such various engine parameters as propellant flow rates, pressures temperature, and rotational speed of the turbopumps as functions of time. It is validated by comparison to real combustion test results. The tests were performed for an 8-tonf class engine. As a result, this simulator showed good agreement with the test results, not only qualitatively, but also quantitatively. This study confirms that the proposed simulator is suitable for starup analysis; furthermore, it can indicate appropriate startup operation. (C) 2017 American Society of Civil Engineers.</P>
