<P>Cyclic peptides and their cyclic analogs have received a great deal of attention because of their numerous interesting biological activities and their challenging chemical synthesis. It has also been hypothesized that they might improve the cell permeability compared to linear molecules by providing internal hydrogen bonding and generally decreasing the conformational flexibility. In this study, a series of cyclic and linear peptoid−dexamethasone conjugates were rationally designed and efficiently synthesized on solid-phase for systematic cell permeability studies using reporter gene-based assays. These model compounds should be used to reveal how the cell permeability of cyclic molecules is affected by several physicochemical properties, especially, the reduced conformational flexibility and the ring size. Efficient Solid-Phase Synthesis of Glycopeptoids

With the completion of the human genome projects, one of the most important scientific issues is to investigate the biological function of each protein. In higher organisms, the functional outputs of the numerous gene products seem to be much more complex when compared to the number of genes, emphasizing the importance of post-translational modifications such as glycosylation and phosphorylation. Despite the fact that glycoproteins are involved in various biological phenomena, the systematic studies of the effects of protein glycosylation have been limited due to the heterogeneity and structural complexity of carbohydrates. In order to access glycopeptides and glycoproteins of defined structure, various chemical, enzymatic and genetic approaches have been developed. As glycopeptide mimetics, we envisioned to develop glycopeptoids because peptoids have many advantages over peptides, including easy synthesis of libraries, a myriad of chemical diversity, proteolytic resistance and improved cell permeability. For the synthesis of glycopeptoids, we have employed the well established ‘submonomer strategy’ on the solid-phase using many commercially available primary amines and synthetically prepared sugar amines. In addition, diastereomeric sugar monomers were differentiated by using different amine linkers, resulting in successful sequencing by tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS). Glycopeptoids should be useful chemical tools for various biological applications including studies for binding affinity to specific proteins or lectins, development of therapeutics such as antibiotics, and profiling studies of diseases.

This paper is to understand the main topics of medical ethics, and to figure out the current situation through internet news articles using text mining technique. Methods: Total of 2,778 articles were collected by searching with the keyword “Medical ethic” in Korea 3 influential newspapers from 1966 to 2018 through internet news web sites. We used Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) algorithm for data analysis. Results: When the topics of medical ethics are arranged in two dimensions, a topic about the nature of medical ethics is located at the center. 5 themes of topics were identified such as lawmaking and administration , medical echosystem and bioethics , medical ethics related industry , advances in medical technology . There was no significant difference in the percentage of topics between them. We can understand that as medical technology develops rapidly, the issue of medical ethics is also changing at a rapid pace. Conclusion: It is necessary to find the essence and direction of medical ethics that respect life in a rapidly changing society. Further research is required to conduct in-depth analysis about topics of medical ethics according to the year of publication.
