      • Research on Tourism Policies and Laws for Revitalizing Regional Tourism Industry: Taking the Offshore Duty-Free Policy of China Hainan International Tourism Island as an Example

        This study is conducted to analyze the improvement and progress of regional tourism vitality by explaining the changes of tourism policies and laws in Hainan Province of China. Focusing on the offshore duty-free policy of Hainan International Tourism Island, it has collected data from relevant laws and regulations and explores the impact of policies on the tourism industry. Combined with the domestic strategic tendency, it also makes a comprehensive comparison and in-depth interpretation of the policies. By analyzing the implementation of the offshore duty-free policy, it proposes feasible and necessary suggestions for the adjustment of the offshore duty-free policy.

        Th2 cells infiltrating high-grade serous ovarian cancer: a feature that may account for the poor prognosis

        Objective: We aimed to investigate the differences of transcriptome profile between 2 groups of high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) patients with distinct outcomes and identify potential biomarkers for recurrence. Methods: RNA sequencing was performed in 2 groups of HGSOC patients with similar demographic characteristics but exhibiting distinct progression-free survival (PFS). Transcriptome data of poor response (PR; PFS ≤6 months) and good response (GR; PFS ≥12 months) group were compared. We employed xCell to evaluate the abundance of 63 cells in tumor microenvironment. The predictive value of recurrence-related tumor infiltration cells was validated in cohort data from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) dataset. The weighted correlation network analysis was performed to identify the genes related to cell infiltration. Results: PR patients exhibited a distinct tumor infiltration immune cells-related transcriptional profile compared to GR patients, such as lower signatures of leukocyte differentiation, activation and chemotaxis. The fraction of T-helper 2 (Th2) cells infiltration was significantly higher in PR group than in GR group. High infiltration of Th2 was significantly associated with unfavorable prognosis in the GEO cohort (area under the curve=0.84 at 6 months recurrence) and TCGA cohort (p=0.008). Genes enriched to extracellular matrix organization and integrin binding were relevant to Th2 infiltration. Conclusion: Patients with HGSOC having shorter PFS exhibited a distinct gene signature that related to tumor-infiltrating immune cells. The level of Th2 infiltration could facilitate patient recurrence risk stratification and may be a promising biomarker for prognosis prediction and immune-related treatment.

      • Experimental study and finite-element analysis of shear wall with CFST, column-form reinforcement, and diagonal bars

        A new type of composite shear wall with concrete-filled steel tubular frames, column-form reinforcement, and diagonal bars (CFST-CFR-DBSW) was proposed to develop high-efficiency lateral force resistance components for high-rise buildings. In order to study the seismic performance of the new shear wall, four specimens were designed: the new shear wall (CFST-CFR-DBSW), a shear wall with column-form reinforcement and diagonal bars (CFR-DBSW), an ordinary reinforced concrete shear wall (RCSW), and an ordinary reinforced concrete shear wall with concrete-filled steel tubular frames (CFST-RCSW). These specimens were constructed, and then tested under low-cycle loading. Using the experimental results, the anti-seismic behavior indexes of the four specimens were analyzed, including failure mode, bearing capacity, ductility, energy dissipation, stiffness degradation, and damage. A finite-element model of the new shear wall was established with ABAQUS to investigate the influence of the thickness of the steel tube, concrete strength, diameter of the column-reinforcement, and diameter of the diagonal bars on the seismic performance of the shear wall specimen. The research results showed that, compared with other specimens, CFST-CFR-DBSW was significantly strengthened with respect to bearing capacity, deformation, energy dissipation, stiffness, and damage. In addition, the results calculated by the ABAQUS finite-element model was in good agreement with the experimental results, and the influence rules of relevant parameters on the seismic performance of CFST-CFR-DBSW were obtained.

        CHARACTERIZING THE TIME-FREQUENCY PROPERTIES OF THE 4 Hz QUASI-PERIODIC OSCILLATION AROUND THE BLACK HOLE X-ray BINARY XTE J1550-564

        We present the results from analysis of the Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) for the 4 Hz quasi-periodic oscillations (QPO) around the black hole X-ray binary XTE J1550-564. The resultant Hilbert spectra demonstrate that the QPO is composed of a series of intermittent signals appearing occasionally. From the analysis of the HHT, we further found the distribution of the lifetimes for the intermittent oscillations and the distribution for the time intervals with no significant signal (the break time). The mean lifetime is 1.45 s and 90% of the oscillation segments have lifetimes less than 3.1 s whereas the mean break time is 0.42 s and 90% of break times are less than 0.73 s. We conclude that the intermittent feature of the QPO could be explained by the Lense-Thirring precession model and rules out interpretations of continual frequency modulation.

        "We Cooperate with Husbands!" Patriarchy and Bargaining among Farm Women in Taiwan

        This paper incorporates economic conceptualisation of intra-household resource allocation while viewing interpersonal processes from social-psychological and anthropological perspectives to explore the process of marital bargaining in farm-related decision-making. The data―collected through a survey of 303 married Taiwanese women who grew vegetables―revealed that more than half of the women disagreed and tried to bargain with their husbands about farm resources and operations. Gender-role attitudes, the presence of other family labor, perceptions of self-competence, and the survival of the family are important elements that influence the working of marital power. These women, however, tended to play a passive role in initiating and conducting communication, as well as in finding solutions through compromise. The findings suggest that the home economics model is insufficient to explain Taiwanese women’s subordination in on-farm

      • Genetic Factors, Viral Infection, Other Factors and Liver Cancer: An Update on Current Progress

        Primary liver cancer is one of the most common cancers at the global level, accounting for half of all cancers in some undeveloped countries. This disease tends to occur in livers damaged through alcohol abuse, or chronic infection with hepatitis B and C, on a background of cirrhosis. Various cancer-causing substances are associated with primary liver cancer, including certain pesticides and such chemicals as vinyl chloride and arsenic. The strong association between HBV infection and liver cancer is well documented in epidemiological studies. It is generally acknowledged that the virus is involved through long term chronic infection, frequently associated with cirrhosis, suggesting a nonspecific mechanism triggered by the immune response. Chronic inflammation of liver, continuous cell death, abnormal cell growth, would increase the occurrence rate of genetic alterations and risk of disease. However, the statistics indicated that only about one fifth of HBV carries would develop HCC in lifetime, suggesting that individual variation in genome would also influence the susceptibility of HCC. The goal of this review is to highlight present level of knowledge on the role of viral infection and genetic variation in the development of liver cancer.

      • Seismic behavior of energy dissipation shear wall with CFST column elements

        To develop high-efficiency lateral force resistance components for high-rise buildings, a novel energy dissipation shear wall with concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) column elements was proposed. An energy dissipation shear wall specimen with CFST column elements (GZSW) and an ordinary reinforced concrete shear wall (SW) were constructed, and experimented by low-cycle reversed loading. The mechanical characteristics of these two specimens, including the bearing capacity, ductility, energy dissipation, and stiffness degradation process, were analyzed. The finite-element model of the GZSW was established by ABAQUS. Based on this finite-element model, the effect of the placement of steel-plate energy dissipation connectors on the seismic performance of the shear wall was analyzed, and optimization was performed. The experiment results prove that, the GZSW exhibited a superior seismic performance in terms of bearing capacity, ductility, energy dissipation, and stiffness degradation, in comparison with the SW. The results calculated by the ABAQUS finite-elements model of GZSW corresponded well with the results of experiment, and it proved the rationality of the established finite-elements model. In addition, the optimal placement of the steel-plate energy dissipation connectors was obtained by ABAQUS.
