A quadratic boost converter (QBC) off ers a wide range of operations and reduced input current ripple that is suitable for hybrid PV/Wind systems. This paper presents a fast response sliding mode controller with more state feedback for the multi-input QBC system connected to DC micro-grid. The control scheme elaborates on the systematic process of arriving controllable canonical form, the advent of the sliding surface, determination of control law, and explanation of sliding mode existence manifold—the controllable canonical form obtained from state-space equations. The proposed controller ensures a model reference robust dynamics against changing operating conditions, variations of circuit parameters, and external disturbances. Obtained sliding surface satisfy Routh–Hurwitz property, and the switching law maintains the converter in sliding mode. The dynamics are studied using MATLAB/Simulink, and the stability of the system is analysed using the bode plot. A prototype is set up for the two-input QBC, and the experimental results are presented to validate the simulation results.

Hydrocyclones have been used for beneficiation of coal and mineral in coal washeries and mineral process industries. To enhance the efficiency of hydrocyclone, it is very essential to quantify the presence or absence of air core within the hydrocyclone. In the present study, for the first time, a new hydrocyclone design has been conceptualized and tested for its efficiency in separation of particles based on gravity. Experimental investigations have been carried out using design of experiments and the results have been analyzed statistically. The results have shown that suppressing the air core improves the separation efficiency of the hydrocyclone. Efforts have been made to explain the concept through fundamentals of fluid flow in hydrocyclone. The air core has a significant effect on particle separation as the relative density of the particles approach to the fluid density. The results will be used in the development of a new design of dense medium hydrocyclone at industrial scale that will improve the separation efficiency of the hydrocyclones by separating the near gravity particles more efficiently.

Purpose: The present study has two aims; firstly, it attempts to verify the presence of oxidative stress by estimating the reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels in periodontal pockets ≥ 5 mm as compared to controls. The second aim is to evaluate the effect of lycopene as a locally delivered antioxidant gel on periodontal health and on the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) levels of 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), a marker of oxidative injury. Methods: Thirty-one subjects participated in this study. In the pretreatment phase, the ROS levels in pockets ≥ 5 mm were measured by flow cytometry. Three sites in each subject were randomly assigned into each of the following experimental groups:sham group, only scaling and root planing (SRP) was done; placebo group, local delivery of placebo gel after SRP; and lycopene group, local delivery of lycopene gel after SRP. Clinical parameters included recording site-specific measures of GCF 8-OHdG,plaque, gingivitis, probing depth, and clinical attachment level. Results: The gel, when delivered to the sites with oxidative stress, was effective in increasing clinical attachment and in reducing gingival inflammation, probing depth, and 8-OHdG levels as compared to the placebo and sham sites. Conclusions: From this trial conducted over a period of 6 months, it was found that locally delivered lycopene seems to be effective in reducing the measures of oxidative stress and periodontal disease.
